Okay. I know at first glance the new dex really bites. However, it is time to dry up the tears and get to work devouring and conquering.

I have test played the new dex a few times now. Here is where I am in my 1850 list.

HQ Flyrant two twin-linked devourers and thorax biomorph electroshock beatles Hive Commander

HQ Flyrant two twin-linked devourers and thorax biomorph electroshock beatles

Elites: Zoanthrope brood ( 3 zoanthropes)

Elites: Zoanthrope brood ( 3 zoanthropes)

Elites: Venompthrope brood ( 1 venompthrope)

Heavy support: Carnifex Brood (3 carnifexes with two twin-linked devourers, regeneration)

Troops: Termagaunts (30 gaunts) 15 x felshborer and 15 x devourers toxic sacs

Troops: Termagaunts ( 30 gaunts) 15 x fleshborer and 15 x devourers toxic sacs

Fast attack: Hive Crone

Tactics: This is meant to be an all comers list that can handle a land raider. Turn one flyrants and crone can haywire the land raider down. If no raider, flyrants can str. 6 spam, and crone can vector strike.

Put the fleshorers up front to take wounds for devourers.

Zoanthropes will follow gaunts to provide synapse. gaunts can still assault fairly decent with poison

Venom will provide gaunts 5+ cover

Carnifexs: Option 1: follow gaunts. this will give a 3+ Cover (gaunts provide 5+ and venom gives them shroud) put venom behind carnifexes
Option 2: Outflank with Hive commander ability
Models take turns in the front. Wounded models go to the back so they can regen. on 4+ while the full health model soaks fire.

List strengths: dakka dakka dakka. gaunts are putting out 120 str 4 shots, flyrants are combining for 24 str 6 twin-linked, carnies are firing 36 str. 6 twin-linked shots also 3d3 str. 9 hammer of wrath. loota quality anti-air? maybe? Zoanthropes can put out 6 str 10 ap 2 lances. Model count. Swarm madness. Opponent may have target priority issues if flyrants survive (big if I know).

Weaknesses: not terrible in assault but not great. Range is not good. no long range shooting. Hopefully flyers can buy time for the army to get there.

Thoughts?

Only troops can outflank with hive commander.

Not sure if i like the point investment in regen.

I like the list.

Can you equip just 2 carnifexes with regen out of the three? If so, you could run the regening ones in front to take fire early and hopefully gain the benefit of the regen when you rotate them to the back. It just might save a few points as you're unlikely to use regen on all three in a game?

Just a suggestion. I like the gaunt tactic

Fully Painted Armies: 2200pts Orks 1000pts Space Marines 1200pts Tau 2500pts Blood Angels 3500pts Imperial Guard/Renegades and 1700pts Daemons 450pts Imperial Knights

I really liked your list, but when i went to copy it shamelessly on battle scribe, I found that you are a little over 2k points unfortunately.

To get it to 1850, i would start by dropping the Toxin Sacs on the gaunts, Hive commander, and regen on one of the fexes. That should put you at 1850 on the nose.

I might think about three 3 squads of 20 with 10 devs and 10 Fleshborers vs. 2 squads of 30. More scoring units, same number of bodies and shots.

I'd also consider switching one Zoanthrope from either Brood to another venomthrope, but that's just my preference.

Love the Electroshock thorax on the flyrants, great idea for 10 points.

Here's your list on battle scribe fyi;

Thank you for the heads up on the points. I have scribe now and have modified the list. I ran the list with only two Zoanthropes per brood and only two carnifexes. I added 10 gargoyles and a biovores. I dropped the gaunt squads to 28 each 13 fleshborer 15 devourers. I also ran only one venomthrope. I played a grey knight list that had terminators/ purifiers/ storm raven/ dread knight/ razorbacks. I tabled my opponent in three turns. The volume of fire was too much for the termies and the light tanks did not survive round one. Once out of the vehicles, purifiers died to Zoanthropes blast templates. Carnifexes put two wounds on dread knight in shooting and failed hard in assault. Flyers landed in turn two and performed well in assault.
