I want to run a ton of cultist, at the moment I am planning on having

30 cultist (might get another 10 today) (20 from Dark vengeance)
10 CSM
5 Raptors
6 Chosen (from Dark vengeance)
Helbrute
and the crimson slaughter leader from dark Vengeance)

Is this a good start to the army? any suggestions would be great.

What point level are you shooting for?

I don't particularly like the load out on the chosen, but that's just me, so I converted mine to have plasma guns

The chosen sgt can also be a sorcerer in my mind

Its a good start, the Chosen weapon loadouts make the unit really expensive on a fairly fragile squad, I would also convert them to be ranged support.

The Helbrute from a fluff perspective is perhaps not the best fit for Alpha Legion, but stuff that you have the model and I quite like it so throw him in as a cheap distraction for a turn or too.

You really either need a HEAP of cultists or a solid core of CSM so do one or the other. THen again, its just my opinion so go for it.

I was looking at the idea of doing a 2000 point Alpha Legion army where every unit is duplicated exactly, so two lords with the same wargear, two squads of chosen etc. etc. to represent the twin Primarchs and all that.
