Hey all,

Looking at getting into WHFB with my mates so we figured we'd start at the 1200pt limit (is there a better starting limit?).

Anyways was looking at maybe these two lists:

Lord
Vamp Lord 300pts
Level 2
Armour of Silvered Steel

Heroes
Necromancer Level 2 100
Necromancer Level 2 100

Core
5x Direwolves 40
20 Skeles, FC, Spears (prefer the look ) 130
40 Zombies, FC 130

Special
30 Grave Guard w/ GW, FC 390

So thats 1190 pts

or

Vampire w/ Nightmare, HA, Lance, Shield 135pts
Vampire w/ Add HW, HA, Enchanted Shield, Level 2 152pts

Core
30x Skeles, FC, spears 180pts
37 Zombies, FC 121pts

Special
9x Black Knights w/ FC, Barding, Lances 264pts

Leaves me with 248pts to play with, so any suggestions on that (master necromancer maybe?)

A massive thanks in advance guys.

Cheers,

Australia

I am only a casual observer of Warhammer Fantasy, but do intend to get into it (bought two boxes of Empire Knights today!).

I prefer the look of the second army, I feel at that points level a Vampire Lord is a massive points sink and just about any war machine your friends bring will be pointed at him. For 1200 points I would go with a hero level Vamp and tool him up for defense first, can't afford to have the whole army crumble.

I also like Wights, so thumbs up for the Black Knights. I would use the extra points to get some more magic in there as Vampires tend to rely on it and a bad miscast could be disastrous for the army general.

Hope I haven't rambled too much.

That reply was spot on mate.

Yeah I think the Vamp lord is a bit costly, only issue is is that how survivable he is, like I realise we cop crumble up the arse if we lose him which will make any general a major target for any opponent.

So sure if you take a master necro as your general he frees up points, but he will die easier than a Vamp Lord...
