Before everyone gets into the mathhammer of the Colossus/Griffon combo, i want to say: i get it the theory is substandard, and the math doesnt work out if you fire the Griffon first then hope for the "hit" on the Colossus.

My Tactic/Strategery is (with the added benefit of INQ allied servo Skulls) firing the Colossus FIRST.

with LoS from Colossus and within servo skull "range" you have a maximum scatter of 3", then with the griffon's "Accurate bombardment" rule you have a twin linked template.

The first shot drops on the pesky (insert enemy character here) and smacks about 5 guys, then with AB your hitting about 3-5 more dudes (removing all the guys from cover first, then splatting any remaining dudes) for 215 points you can erase some serious threats.

Thoughts??

The only issue is the minimum range on those two. If anything gets within 18" the colossus is out, and 12" removes both. This means anything with DS or outflank is going to cause all manner of issues. Plus AP2 isn't there. A Medusa has AP2, S10 and no minimum range

I've never found skulks to be overly usefull for blast scatter reduction, as any enemy unit close enough to a skull to be hit is close enough to remove the skull. Yes, skulls have a 12" radius, but they flee as soon as an enemy moves to within 6" of them, and easy thing to do with infantry, let alone a vehicle, bike, or jump/jet pack.

3 basilisks with precience works better...

re roll all 3 scatters, better str and AP....

hell go the cheese route, buy the FW artillary (ie 75 pt basilisks because making something better means reducing its pts by 40%.. because... FW)

225 pts, about as cheap, but def more powerful then what you listed, +55 pts for a precience roll.

your welcome

In 6th edition the minimum range on barrage doesn't prevent you firing, it just means the shot counts as indirect (full scatter unless hit).

With an inquisitor you have effectively a 3+ chance to score direct hit.

Skulls are 9 pta for 3 so if all they do is redirect couple of guys into the open (place them 6+" away from cover) they are paying for themselves anyway. I like to make triangle 12" appart so as to overlap a bit.
