I was bored and wrote up this narrative batrep of the last 54mm Inquisitor game I played down at my FLGS. Note that it was a decidedly un-narrative bunch of combat between his Inquisitor Covenant and my Covenant-based Inquisitor Ortega. But enough exposition:

--- --- ---

Inquisitor Ortega glanced up from the blasphemous ruins scratched into a rock pillar that he was inspecting and caught the slightest hint of movement behind the nearby pipeline. He lowered the visor on his helmet and flipped on the bioscanner, confirming his paranoia ? he had been followed into the underhive sump afterall. Keeping an eye on his hunter's topknot as it peeked over the top of the industrial piping, Ortega crouched into a crevice in the rock spire and drew his boltgun, switching to single shot and aiming at the end of the maze of pipes. As unpalatable as it was, Ortega was not over shooting first and asking questions later, especially this far away from the Emperor's light.

The topknot paused behind the last segment of pipe and then leapt out, MIU-linked psycannon on his shoulder already throwing shells at Ortega's position. Surprised by the sudden assault, Ortega's aim faltered and he caused only minimal damage to his assailant's legs. Unperturbed, the shadowy figure calmly strode toward Ortega's position, hammering shells into the inquisitor's carapace-armored chest and groin. Crying in pain as a round detonated in his left shoulder, Ortega got to his feet and ran toward another spire, desperately trying to reach cover. He managed to snap a shot off, but it flew wide, puncturing the pipeline with a gush of acidic sludge.

The enemy continued to walk forward and fire mercilessly, blasting chunks out of Ortega's thigh and calf. Still a dozen feet from the rock spire, Ortega fell to his good knee, flipped his boltgun to burst mode and let fly nearly a dozen rounds of sanctified ammunition. Once again, Ortega was only able to glance his attacker in the legs, though he added a solid shot in the arm as well. Briefly glancing at his bleeding arm, the hunter turned back to his prey, psycannon swiveling with his gaze, and thundered one more volley at the crouching inquisitor. Ortega's right arm was sheared off at the bicep, his groin took two direct psycannon rounds and the carapace on his chest was blasted open by another explosive shell. He fell backwards with a thump and passed out, losing blood catastrophically ?

Ortega?s vision cleared after a few moments, and through the blood on the inside of his faceplate he could just make out his assailant leaning over him. Ortega noticed the inquisitorial icon emblazoned upon his enemy?s chest armor, and struggled to find the voice to ask what this was about. The inquisitor squinted into Ortega?s dark visor one last time, shook his head and shot the man directly in the face with his psycannon.
