Well a group at my local GW is going to Nottingham to place some orders and take some with them. I decided to put in one of my own to, so nothing to worry about with the cash to let it come over here. I just have no idea what to actually get with my money. I've been playing with my Marines and Chaos Marines so I wanted to eventually get a Mortis Contemptor or a Decimator. Next to that the Legion Vindicator looks nice to together with an IF Etched Brass sheet, as I still need to get one for my Marines. And then I saw the Rapier Laser Destroyers and it looked fun to run them in a batch of 2 in a heavy support slot S9, AP2, Ordenance 1, 36" sound rather tempting.

Due to all this I got a little indecisive to what to get. So I'd like some feedback.

Poor ignorant guardsmen, it be but one of many of the great miracles of the Emperor! The Emperor is magic, like Harry Potter, but more magic! A most real and true SPACE WIZARD! And for the last time... I'm not a space plumber.

Aw man... I wanna take back my vote... I thought the Rapier Laser Destroyers were vehicles not artillery... go for the Legion Vindicator with the brass etch...

I think the poll's pretty much decided.

I voted for the rapiers, too.

Yes, the mortis contemptor looks cool, but the rapiers kill stuff good.

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.

That is not dead which can eternal lie ...

... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.

Actually I'll keep my vote... something hitting that hard at 36" with ordnance is nothing to sneeze at.

(ordnance=large blast template... right? I forget...)

Was reading up on the Rapiers. They can be run in a group of 3 in a HS slot... but if one loses it's hp... it'll blow up with a large blast template. Plus their not exactly tough cookies. So metal parts and limbs everywhere... Those unfortunate crew guys.

Nvm it blows up on 1s... tough I tend to throw those a lot somehow.

Ordnance is large blast yeah.

No it is not. Ordnance just means that you roll 2D6 and pick the highest for armor penetration, it has no other effects. It's just pure coincidence that many ordnance weapons are also large blast weapons. The Rapier is effectively a twin-linked lascannon with an armor penetration bonus. It is, however, a very nice model.

In terms of most power for your money the Contemptor is probably the best deal.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Oh thanks for the info Peregrine, I tought it was like the Basilisk at first.

Anyone has the right book for the Rapiers? I noticed something rather intresting. There is a Quad Heavy Bolter one to... do Chapter Tactics apply to this? As I run under IF Chapter Tactics. And does this apply to a Contemptor with Heavy Bolters to?

If I recall correctly it's only boltguns and storm bolters that the IF Chapter Tactics apply to, don't quote me on this though..

Found the rule. Bolter Drill has Bolt Pistols, Bolt Guns, Storm Bolters, Heavy Bolters and Combi Bolters.

Just wanted to know if the rule applies to Forgeworld.

I mean Quad Heavy Bolters with the Combat Tactics sound rather fun. Especially if I can reroll all those ones.

I assume that if it's not a 'Heavy Bolter' as stated specifically in the Space Marine Codex, and it's a 'Quad Heavy Bolter' in one of the FW books it doesn't count as a Heavy Bolter.. Also, vehicles/artillery guns don't have chapter tactics so it makes no difference anyway..
