Subject: New Ork player, question about trukks in a big mek list

I have recently started playing Orks, and have found that i love their killy and aggressive brand of warfare. I've been leaning towards building a mek army, adn was wondering about the viability of trukks in them
my current list is as follows
1 x big mek
10 x lootas
5 x burnas
a few deffkoptas
3 x killa kans
3 x killa kans
probably more killa kans in the future
1 x deff dread
30 boyz (slugga/choppa)
20 shoota boyz
With the list so far, i understand that i am probably looking to have more lootas/burnas/possible some tankbustas. My real question is what i should do in terms of my boyz. I really like the idea of using trukks in this list to aid the slow kans and other things. I understand that they are paper thin and that many would only recommend them when used en masse, but i was wondering if it is viable to stick one or two mobs of boyz in trukks and a few meganobz into another one. I also understand that when using them in a mek list in particular i would use them strategically instead of just charging the enemy. For me, it seems that since i already have a large number of boyz on foot it would be more useful to have my remaining boyz be mobile than be in large masses. However i am not sure how well this would fare in practice.

Krazed Killa Kan
|
Welcome to dakka... Don't listen to me... but.....
-No tank bustas. Save your money for more burnas or lootas. Tankbustas could be one of the more useless units in the codex.
-Kanz are fun but explode d6" frequently in my experience
-More shoota boys at least 10
-Wagons are better than trukks in my opinion
-Make sure that BM has a KFF
-1 Nob w/ PK and BP is gold standard for each boy squad.
-Yes MegaNobz in a truk is classic
-I (and most other ork players) have better luck with shoota boyz than slugga boyz
Tactics Tip:
-En masse trucks? Like 6 maybe. Like 3 + Killa Kanz. No way Jose. Which would you shoot first as an opponent.
1. MANz Missle-Truk pops and they are so slow that they're out of the game if you can stay away from them
2. Burna Truk - Pops, kills half. Shoot the rest. Dead mid field
3. Boyz Truk - Pops maybe who cares. It's only 12 boyz who are now alone.
4. Look there's some Kans that won't get to me for another turn or two. What will I do.... hmmmmm. Shoot at the boyz.
BUT
6 Truks with 11 Slugga Boyz + 1 Nob w/PK and BP in each. That could be a problem for me...

If your group are cool with using the new Stronghold book, I highly recommend looking at the Void Shield Generator. It's absolutely perfect for a Trukk list.
Effectively you get 1-9 AV12 'shields' that must be killed, all of them, before you can even start to damage the units underneath. In your case that means a massive amount of anti-tank firepower is wasted before it can even be applied to your Trukks and so you gain a massive boost in resilience, certainly enough to get turn-2 charges pretty much untouched.
Meganobz love Trukks and will usually win every fight they enter unless it's against a WS5+ Monster, or go for mutual destruction against enemy Terminators.
I would shy away from Burnas personally because you cannot fire from the top unless you slow to a crawl, and anti-infantry firepower is rarely something that Orks lack.
As an idea for ~1500pts?
Mek with Forcefield
2 units of 4 Meganobz, riding Trukks
5 units of Boyz in Trukks
Void Generator
2 Dakkajets
I'd also look into Grot Tanks and the Big Trakks if you can, they are Forge World toys and great fun.

Hmm ok, so it seems that I'm going to need more trukks... I'm thinking of upgrading my shoots boys mob and taking 3 trukks with boyz and a trukk of meganobz. Is this enough? I feel like I'm spreading myself too thin by trying to run a Mek army with dreads, kans and lootas in it. I will still leaving a few slugga boys with the kans. is this worth it or will the opponent be preoccupied enough that I should take a fifth trukk? As for the shoota boys and burnas and lootas they will be on foot as well.
Oh and I won't be taking tankbustas, thanks for the tip
And as a general question, would this army work with this dual focus?
EDIT: or maybe i could go with my old strategy of only two trucks, but keep them in reserve and only use them once my main army is in battle for flanking/rushing towards objectives

ok so im thinking this:
1 x big mek (KFF)
10-15 x lootas
5 - 10 x burnas in a trukk
4 x meganobz in a trukk
a few deffkoptas
3 x killa kans
3 x killa kans
probably more killa kans in the future
1 x deff dread (ill probably scrap this for something that is more proficient at ranged attacks, like more kans )
20 - 30 slugga boyz
20 shoota boyz
12 slugga boyz in a trukk
12 slugga boyz in a trukk or another 20 shootas on foot
Im am trying to avoid pure trukk spam and instead just want some versatility. I am not looking to just throw as many trukks at my opponent as possible. I am using them for more strategic purposes, like flanking, taking out enemy tanks, etc. Is this possible? Or should i just choose between a list with a thick horde of orks with some walkers and a list with 5 trukks and a bunch of wagons?
