For starters, Hey Everyone!

Right so I've been a member of Dakka Dakka for at least a year but have only previously posted up a couple of my paint jobs.
They haven't done too badly on here, got a decent coolness rating
Thought I'd join into the forums a little bit here finally.

So a little about me:
I'm a student at De Montfort Uni in the UK, doing a degree in Video Game Art and Design, which isn't as fun as it probably sounds.
I've been collecting Warhammer (mainly 40k stuff) for years, mainly for the sheer awesomeness of the models and because I love painting them.
I spent most of my times playing games (when not doing uni work), and have amassed quite a collection of consoles and games.

So a little something I wanted to throw your way guys.....my 3rd year project at uni, my FMP, is something we can decide what we wanna do.
Guess what I did! Warhammer 40k of course! So my project is designing, modeling, 3D printing and then painting a series of units, but rather than doing units from a race that already exist I'm making my own. I've gone for Chaos-Orks (Chorks?...I dunno) Anyways, you guys seem like an awesome bunch that know whats what....please check it out.

I'd really appreciate any opinions, advice etc that peeps may have. Hopefully I can get this ball rolling and starting posting updates to the project in the 'blogs' section on here too.

Cheers everyone!

Welcome to Dakka! Always loved it when someone tries to make something new!
Can't wait to see those pics!

EDIT: Well that didn't take long.

Thanks! And thanks for the enthusiasm too! As its a uni project theres stuff on the blog that I perhaps wouldn't have bothered writing about, but we have to include all our processes and progress. So sorry if some of the stuff posted is a little dull or off topic.

I'm going to be going through all the processes it takes to make the models though so I dunno maybe some people on here might find it of interest if they ever want to make their own models. I might even be able to 3D build models for other people to get built at some point, that would be cool.

Right now I'm in the process of doing a quick Zbrush sculpt just so I can get test 3D prints done to see how good they turn out and how long it takes etc.
Hopefully the finished models are gonna look awesome and I can post a bunch of pics up on here for all to have a look at.

Looking very good indeed. Chaos Orks, if you can make it work without the big bad Games Workshop squashing your ideas prematurely, I look forward to this! Loving your Ork in your gallery, already very Chaos-y.

If I recall correctly, in the eighties Games Workshop itself had Chaos Orks, but abandoned them rather quickly. They were nowhere near as cool as your sketches though!

All the best of luck and really look forward to progress!

Looks fantastic! I like the idea of chaos orks, i wonder how it would work in the fluff since they have their own pair of gods.

Cheers guys! That pic looks awesome! I didn't know they'd ever done Chaos Orks, but I don't know much about their 80's stuff.

I appreciate the support! ^_^
My uni lecturer actually spent a week ringing Games Workshop head office to tell them what I'm doing and to try get like a design specification out of them that I could work to.
He didn't get anywhere with it they just took him round in circles. But its just a uni project and not for any commercial purposes so I can't see why they'd have a problem with it.
Even if they did they can't say we didn't try and get in touch with them, if they weren't bothered when my lecturer was ringing them then hopefully they don't see any harm in it!

I'm going to be posting up a few screen shots of my (in progress) Zbrush model today or tomorrow so keep a look out!

More awesome is coming
