Hello Dakka. I have something rather different from my usual stuff. I have a first draft of an 1850 list for Chaos Space Marines with Daemon Allies. This is a semi-fluff/competitive list, though not necessarily for tournament play. Here’s what I got so far:
Main Detachment

HQ
Dark Apostle w/ MURDER Sword – 140

Elites
5x Terminators w/ 4x combis, HF, 1 Sword, 2 Mauls, PF, CF, MoT – 233
Decimator Engine w/ Storm Laser, MoK - 225

Troops
20x Cultists – 90
10x Marines w/ Fl, Pl, PS, IoV – 200
10x Marines w/ Fl, Pl, PS, IoV – 200

Heavy Support
7x Havocs w/ 3x AC, 1 ML (all missiles) – 156
2x Oblits w/ MoN – 152
2x Oblits w/ MoN – 152

Allies

HQ
Herald of Tzeentch w/ Psyker 2, Disc – 95

Troops
12x Daemonettes – 108

Fast Attack
6x Flesh Hounds – 96

Total: 1847 pts.

So, here’s what I have in mind for these forces of Chaos: The Marine squads are there primarily to take objectives, or set up an extra firing line in Kill Points missions. The Daemonettes may aid in taking objectives, and maybe the cultists, too. However, that’s not their main purpose. The cultists will otherwise provide as meatshields for the Dark Apostle, so he can go kill that special snowflake with the MURDER Sword. Daemonettes and Flesh Hounds will eliminate/tarpit targets of interest. Meanwhile, both the Terminators and Obliterators will hang back in reserves and Deep Strike as needed. The Termis serve as either sweeping a scoring unit off an objective or just to troubleshoot. Both the Havocs and the Obliterators are there either to bring down fliers and/or provide fire support. In the meantime, the Herald can fly around the army and provide Prescience to any unit that needs it, while throwing fire as well.
That’s all I got so far. If you have any suggestions/critiques for this list, I would greatly appreciate it.

I've never seen a list like this before, its odd.

If you're running the terminators as a point clearing unit, you'll want power-mauls and flamers. MoN to take small arms fire from those midfield units they'll be fighting.

Whats up with that decimator engine? You appear to be kitting it out for both melee with the MoK and ranged attacks with the storm laser. Pick a role for it

You always want to double out CSM squads with special weapons. Don't mix, and take 2 of them. IoV is something that is questionable. Would you have it, or 3 more CSM? its very expensive for bringing what it does to such a cheap squad. Rhinos are also great things to consider.

Why take the one ML in the havoc squad?

The herald is not going to make it very long. If you want him to do what you say, you should be taking a Lord of Change. You will need to make room for points for this, but it will be worth it. The Herald will die to just a single squad of vanilla marines firing bolters at him. You will not be satisfied, trust me.

Daemonettes and flesh hounds are good.

The dark apostle.....I see what you're going for here but I dont see it working. The cultists will die, he is too big a threat for your opponent to not shoot at him. So at the end of the day, you're spending 230 points to, if your opponent allows you, run at the snowflake and kill him, and then die afterwards. There are a lot of snowflakes out there that cost 230 points, but are still usefull after killing something that is worth 230 points. Not this guy. The murder sword is only good when it can for cheap kill something much more expensive than itself. In my opinion there is one loadout for this: A terminator lord. Hes only 140 points or so and he can deepstrike in. He has mobility but is cheap still. If you ask me, I'd say dont take the thing at all, but if you do, keep the person holding it and his transportation under 150 points.

I'd say your list lacks direction. Think over some things.

What is your battle plan? Yes the duelist duels people, yes the troops cap points, yes the gunline units sit and shoot, but what is your gameplan?

Thank you for replying, changerofways.
The terminators could, certainly switch up their wargear. This particular loadout is something I considered able to take on any type of threat.
So, you're saying I should give the Decimator engine two claws instead of a claw and laser combo?
Double specials. Got it. Why not the Icon of Vengeance?
The single Missile Launcher is there to launch flakk as well as frag and krak, just in case my opponent has a flyer or two in reserves. It's the same reason for the two Oblit pairs.
I can see switching out for a Lord of Change.
Honestly, I didn't have much of a game-plan (or, at least with this list). I haven't had the codex for a long time, but the idea I have in my head is this: Chaos Marines seem to favor more offensive units than their Loyalist counterparts, and I figured what I want to do with them is have an Undivided approach to this. Something of a hammer-and-anvil or pincer assault. And in this regard, I was going for multiple threats either charging at the enemy, or deepstriking in his/her midst.

Ok this helps me.

If you want a swiss army knife terminator squad that is fine. Just know that a jack of all trades is a master of none. If you're playing necrons and their monolith is really giving you trouble, 1 combi-melta and a chainfist will not kill it. If you need to clear a point, 1 combi-flamer and a power maul will not clear the troops off of it. You get the idea. Just know what what you're taking is capable of.

A single Missile Launcher will not kill "a flyer or two". I don't know how to say this nicely, so I'm sorry to say the idea that 1 missile launcher will be the centerpiece of your AA is silly. I really mean that when I say I'm sorry, I mean no disrespect.

You are spot-on when you say that the CSM codex is aggressive. Its also fragile. What this means is REDUNDANCY is the most important thing about list building for CSM. Your DaemonPrince/Daemonengine/vindicator isnt durable enough to make it into combat range? Take 3! That is something very important to remember when building any list, not just CSM.

What I meant about the icon of vengeance is that it is very expensive, and that if it does save you from a retreat, is what's left over really worth saving from a turn of running backwards in the case of vanilla 13 pt per model CSM?

Something that will help you formulate a game plan is if you take troops other than standard CSM. For instance, plague marines with their high durability, defense grenades, and knives make for excellent midfield holders. Building an army around that troop choice is much easier, isnt it?

Thanks for all the replies thus far. I have an edited version of this list, this time coming in at 1850 on the dot.

Main Detachment

HQ
Lord w/ JP, 2x Claws, AoDG - 125

Elites
5x Termis w/ 4xcombi-mel, HF, 3x Mauls, PF, CF, MoT – 233
Decimator Engine w/ MoK – 210

Troops
10x Marines w/ 2xFl, PS, IoV – 190
10x Marines w/ 2xFl, PS, IoV – 190

Fast Attack
10x Raptors w/ 2x Fl, MoS, IoE - 240

Heavy Support
2x Nurgle Obliterators – 152
2x Nurgle Obliterators – 152

Allies

HQ
Changer of Ways – 230

Troops
12x Daemonettes w/ Lash – 128

Total: 1850

So, here’s how the new list works: The Jump-Pack Lord will join with the Raptors, and both them, the Daemonettes, and the Decimator will form attack prongs, in order to charge. The Decimator is there to take on heavy infantry, Raptors can find MEQs, and the Daemonettes can choose to support either/or. On the other side of the board, Termis and Oblits can Deep-Strike to form the anvil. Termis are kitted to take on vehicles, and Oblits are there to shoot at either fliers or other targets of opportunity. Meanwhile, the Changer of Ways will be flying around, either giving squads re-rolls to hit and/or shoot mind bullets with the Change discipline.
