So after much thinking I've decided that I'd like to go with an autumnal colour scheme with my High Elf army. A mixture of rich browns, golds, bronze and reds for the general army - with then being able to pick out things like silver helms with a shot of white/silver as well.

Partly inspired by the elves from Disciples and their colour scheme:

Though with a touch more richness (like the last link shows ) so that its not too monotone on the table top.

Thing is I'm an utter beginner with paints so I've no idea really how to devise nor get the right colours on the models themselves. If anyone has done a similar scheme or knows of any I'd welcome a look at them to get an idea of how people have approached it. I'd also greatly welcome advice on paints and what colours to select and layer so that I can get a good effect.

I'd go with Scorched Brown (Rhinox Hide now, I believe) for my darkest brown, Bestial Brown (Mournfang Brown) for my mid, Snakebite Leather (Balor Brown) for my lightest brown, and Golden Yellow (Yriel Yellow) for my yellow. White and brown can be mixed with the yellow to lighten or darken it as needed.

I would suggest looking at some of the wood elf armies out there. They tend to be based on seasonal colors much more so than highelves. I believe the wood elf army book actually has example of how to paint them for all four seasons. That will give you a good idea of how to break up the colors, and you can apply that to a high elf model. Here are some examples:

Heres one I found that actually has example of high elf miniatures in a autumn color scheme.

Hope that helps!

Thanks for the input guys

Col its interesting the last link you show ( to my eye at least) has the HE looking a touch Roman (I think its the red capes partly). It's not a bad look, but not one I'm after so something to be careful to mind with the colour selection so that I can get the look without being Roman elves.

The middle link - http://www.jacgames.com/warhammer-wood-elf-army.html - I think has a scheme close to what I'm envisioning - stronger shot of red and vibrancy

I find this site useful when planning colour schemes as you can play around with different ideas before you start buying paints and/or testing on models: http://colorschemedesigner.com/

'Analogic' or 'accented analogic' would probably work best for you.
