So I played at a tournament this weekend. One of my opponents played a bastion.

That thing is hard to kill. I'm going to get Stronghold Assault in order to feta look stall this new stuff. But my question:

He placed the Bastion PARTLY within his deployment zone.

He deployed a vet squad in the bottom. Coatez, 2 joakearo and 3 servo toes in the middle... and a vet squad with a heavy weapons team (lascannon) at the top.

It's AV14 and needs a 7 on the table to blow it up.

Was this all correctly played?

Set up Fortifications, page 120, answers this question. (If the bastion was within his table half, it is legal.

What is your question here?

Yea AV14 means its very hard to kill, if he's got models inside or on top don't forget the glances cause wounds. I usually use CC and a Smash attack or something with Lance to do the deed!

And don't forget you can elect to throw grenades inside it as well Most people actually don't even know this rule. Models in assault with a building can elect to use a grenade as long as they are within 2" of a firing point on the building. The grenade rules for buildings and the models taking hits on the inside can be found on page 94 if you are interested.

Yeah. His joakeros could all choose to opt for heavy flmaers. And I guess everything inside overwatches too!

There is no "middle" inside the Bastion.Only the inside and the top.Only one unit with joined HQ`s are allowed inside. So he may still have been legal if that was an HQ choice with accessorie models in the assumed "middle" section.

Okay. Maybe it was just Coatez then... I'm sure he had another troop choice in there...

ALSO...

What happens to units on top of a building when its destroyed? Same thing as those within?

I'm going to need to get this stronghold thing really, aren't I?

The bastion is in the core rulebook, but I wanna know if anyone remembers what cover save you get behind it? 4 or 5?

Im pretty sure the Bastion only offers a Cover Save if you are one top, where the models inside have Fire Points to shoot out of and subsequently cannot be directly fire AT...

The Bastion itself is just a LOS blocking tool really.. Once it's destroyed it's rules are found in the BRB as well and state what kind of Terrain it is. Which subsequently have their own rules for Cover Saves.

Normal cover rules still apply, so if you're 25% obscured you get a cover save, and I found it in the normal cover rules anyway. It grants a 3+ cover.

If he only ends up with guys on top, simply embark into the building and the same turn you embark you can assault, so you shred the guys on top also!

Just to clarify, you're saying the models ON TOP gain the 3+ cover correct. You are not saying the Bastion itself grants a 3+ cover save to models hiding behind it I hope. lol

The bastion grants 3+ cover to models behind it because it is a fortification. Units on the battlements only get 4+ cover because it says so in the BRB FAQ.

While the building doesn't need to be fully in his deployment zone, if it isn't he can't deploy any unit's into it (scout and infiltrate aside).

That's exactly what I'm saying as it's actually spelled out in the rulebook....the ones behind it get the 3+ cover save...lol?................

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!
