So, as the name suggests,I'd like to know how to start a balanced DE list in 6th.

The only thing I've bought yet is a raider and a kabalite squad so I'm pretty much open to all suggestions!

What should I buy next ? What General tactics should I use? Good army/ unit builds?

Answers to all these questions would be appreciated,

Thanks in advance

The Dark City is another forum that specialises in DE. They have a pretty good understanding of the DE codex, I would ask there.

Mushkilla and Thor666 are both quite competent players and they differentiate they lists and their play style quite a lot. So if you want a competetive list you would still have play styles to choose from.

They also have a vide variation of builds vareing from competetive to cassual. Dakka does provide good advice in both of these sections but the dark city forum is much better as the DE list varies a lot from other codexes. (I would compare DE to Tomb King in Fantasy, both of theese armies die horribly fast if you play them wrong.)

I bought the battleforce, plus another raider and a Ravager, and haven't looked back. The Dark City offers some great advice.

Are you experienced in 6th ed? It's a lot easier to start DE in 6th than to start 6th ed with DE.

Chaos isn’t a pit. Chaos is a ladder. Many who try to climb it fail, and never get to try again. The fall breaks them. And some are given a chance to climb, but refuse. They cling to the realm, or love, or the gods…illusions. Only the ladder is real. The climb is all there is, but they’ll never know this. Not until it’s too late.

A few things you probably will never regret buying:

2 Venoms and 2 Raiders.

I dont know what you'll put in them eventually, but it's a no lose situation if you do get them. A lot depends o nthe list, but those will likely be in every list worth mentioning.

Personally, I think a unit of Trueborn with 4 blasters and a Venom Cannon are also pretty much a given. However, that is more debatable than the first advice.

I personally prefer the Wracks as troops choices. Poison weapons (re-rolling to wound when STR allows), 3 attacks on the charge, tougher to kill, and they can have both Liqufier guns (which are potentially terrifying) AND Hexrifles (which are potentially terrifying Precision weapons and AP 4). It's hard not to prefer them. But that's definitely open for debate. Just an opinion.

A Haemonculi will make most lists so I'd get one of those too.

Next purchase should be a battleforce. You will use every single unit in that box at one time or another regardless of what your normal play style is, in addition to what you've already purchased.

Also, as others have said, visit http://www.thedarkcity.net and certainly read the following: http://www.thedarkcity.net/t4935-dark-eldar-unit-guide-plastikente

I purchased the Black Ark commander fig from the Fantasy line for use as a Duke Sliscus, and haven't had a moment of regret since. He's an absolute delight.

I tend to get a little more mileage out of my kaballites than from my wyches, but I'm very new with the army.

The Reavers have proven very hit or miss for me, but the Bladevanes have been far more useful than my initial impression gave them credit for.

I just purchased models for use as Pain/Parasite engines, and not sure how those will work yet.

As said above, battleforce is a great deal. With the rules right now you honestly wouldnt need more than ten witches to put en venoms. For the competitive side of the house people usually do multiple 10 man units of kabbies in raiders shooting out with splinter racks (also flicker fields are a must on any transport) I personally love wracks and grotesks with a haeme but that flesh circus is its own kind of play. I personally like ravagers better than talos but if you are going to run talos its best to either run 3 or 2 talos and 1 chronos. Now one thing I like that doesnt match up with the norm youll find online is scourges, I think they are fantastic antivehicle delivery and great looking models. Beastpacks are also often used and seen as competitive, people most commonly run 2-3 beastmasters, 4-5 khaemere, and max razorwings. Most highly revered named hqs are baron and duke--both of which GW neglected to give us a model for so you get to find one and enjoy the modeling of something special and unique.

Hello! I run DE in this edition. In my opinion, try running 3 ravagers and venom-spam with a beast pack. I usually run 4 beast masters, 6 kymera, 4 razorwing flocks. I run baron in front with his shadow field. I then take allies. (Which consists of a farseer on a jetbike with runes of witnessing and mantle of the laughing god, and 3+ windriders in reserve for late game objective capturing. Use your farseer to cast guide on the ravagers and fortune on the beast pack for baron to re-roll his save. Beast pack also has hit and run btw!

Hope this helps!

P.s I am currently getting out of the tourney scene and starting a coven list. lol

Might not end up using all the Warriors but some can be used as Trueborn

This is an exceptionally common AND effective list by the way. You're hoping for fortune, as your Psyker power, then putting the Baron in front of the beast pack to take or pass hits along as needed and the enemy may never wound that unit til it gets an angle on it.

I fought it at the final table at a 5 game tourney recently and did defeat it, but it worked EXACTLY like it should. Everything in my backfield was decimated, but I won in the movement phase as i often try to do.

POTENT force.

In the Casualty section of a Blood Bowl dugout

I was toying with the idea of a small Dark Eldar force. My shopping list was Battleforce + Archon + Incubi + three Venoms + Ravager.

Giving me Archon + Incubi in Venoms
Kabalites in Raider
2 x 5 wyches in venom
3 Reavers
Ravager

Probably not the most competitive list, but still pretty good. I like the idea of the Archon + Incubi and the idea of using everything in the Battleforce. Another squad of Kabalites (for use as trueborn in venoms) and a Haemonculus HQ would probably work out more competitively.

Incubi are not nearly good enough. on paper: fearsome. but in actual play, how can the enemy NOT prefer killing that unit in its venom first? Its a lot of points and easy to strand. Other units at least have the virtue of not mattering as much if that happens but when you purchase incubi, you WANT a return on that investment! and sometimes you get it. But thats usually against really hyper aggressive forces and most forces that are can wait a round to pop those things out before getting too froggy.

Started up a small friendly force just to play with noncompetitive friends. They wont play it anymore and I didnt think it was that great. Note this is low points, but IMO its best to learn small.
2 Venoms with Splinter cannon, Night shield
trueborn squad with splinter cannons
Warrior Squad with a blaster and blaster pistol
Scourges with 2 haywire launchers and a blaster pistol

Its a nasty little force. DE excel at low point games.

In our 500 point games only 1 troop is required and all other slots are 0-1 with a bunch of restrictions(nothing over 2W,nids are an exception, no 2+ saves, no AV facings over 12(after all effects))

If you dont short hand your list, Im not reading it.
Example: Assault Intercessors- x5 -Thunder hammer and plasma pistol on sgt.
or Assault Terminators 3xTH/SS, 2xLCs
For the love of God, GW, get rid of reroll mechanics. ALL OF THEM!

This, I've only ever got them to cc once and that was the lone survivor of the group. They always get popped first and ganked on the advance.

Not a fan of Incubi as well. I had a squad last edition and it either crushed its target with ease, or got crushed with ease, there was no middle ground and more often than not it was getting crushed. Save the slot for either Blasterborn or Splinterborn.
