I have played quite heavily over the last few months since coming back to 40k and my army is a work in progress. I have planned out a couple of prospective lists trying to form something slightly competitive. Before I spend a load of money on some new toys I thought I'd try and get some feedback on the main list I am inclined towards. Ideally if you were to face this list what would be your thoughts? Highlighting strengths and especially weaknesses would be very much appreciated.
Allied Detatchment Imperial Guard
HQ
70 - Primaris Psyker
Troops
230 - Platoon
- 5 x platoon command
- 5 x 10 infantry
Fast Attack
260 - 2 x Vendetta (Squad)
Main Detatchment Space Marines
HQ
165 - Tigurius (Warlord)
180 - Terminator Librarian
- Mastery Level 2
- Terminator Armour
- SS
- Burning Blade
50 - Techmarine
Troops
119 - Scout Squad
- Telion
- Sniper Rifles
- Camo Cloaks
68 - Scout Squad
- Sniper Rifles
- Camo Cloaks
Elites
225 - Hammernators
Heavy Support
200 - Stormraven Gunship
- MM
- Assault Cannon
130 - Devatator Squad
- 4 x Plasma Cannon
65 - Whirlwind
Fortifications
80 - Aegis Defence Line
- Icarius Lascannon
Total Points - 1842
My idea would be to roll tigurius on Divination and the Libby on Telepathy or Biomancy. Possibly pushing all 3 HQ psykers upfield in units of imperial infantry with the hammernators moving up at the same time, then jump all 3 HQ into the hammernator squad once near CC range to deliver the 'punch'.
The Telion squad would sit in the defence line with telion firing the icurius cannon. The Techmarine would sit in the stormraven to give it hull point recovery and bolster whichever piece of terrain the second scout squad were in or the devastators (hopefully both).
The Whirlwind is more an afterthought but i play a lot of tau and eldar players so to have an AP4/5 large blast comes in handy and would hopefully steal some attention from the more valuable units.
General thoughts on tactics is to gain early domination of flying zone to then be able to take out the large AP/ high wound MC enemy ground units.
So, i'd love to gain feedback on the army construction and tactics. are 55 imperial infantry enough or should i bolster my scoring units? My only real concern at the moment with this list is that the IG would fall dead too easily leaving me rather shy of scoring units. I am aware that the army is not particularly mobile either and ignoring tactical squads may be a big mistake but could this army work?
