Subject: What would you pay for painted models?

This is a question I feel a lot of people actually want to know I want to run a easy test and post a couple pictures and see what people will pay to get there stuff to that quality. For this i will put a number above the picture and just post the numbers then what you would pay for it.(this is not the price of the model itself only the price of the paint job and base work.) To also help you I will put the average price of what each group of model would be if you bought them unpainted.
#1 Average Price Unpainted = $103.00
#2 Average Price Unpainted = $180.00
#3 Average Price Unpainted = $60.00
#4 Average Price Unpainted = $100.00
#5 Average Price Unpainted = $40.00
#6 Average Price Unpainted = $60.00
Please Help out with this little experiment.
Thanks,
Ben

They are 20-30 before shipping on ebay. I was just going off a normal bike squad price not actually the DV bikes. Sorry if that threw you off I was pricing quickly and guess on some of it.

I'd probably put 40% retail on them, barring the GUO which looks fantastic and probably worth 50-60% retail.
These are based of my own personal skill (my only point for effort=/=money comparison) and I am absolutely awful at painting. Your mileage may vary.

My opinion is that painting varies. You will pay less for a model that has tabletop quality, a bit more for some basic wash/shades, and then starts the rising. As for the photos you have posted, depending in the level of paintjob, I guess that most of the time, apart from shipping costs, the price will be 80-90% of the retail. Then is great paintjobs with high detail level, 120-150%. Sorry, but I think that painting and especially at this point, is hard and time consuming. But that's just me.

It's very hard to put a price on model, because demand dictates the prices. In other words a GW model will probably sell for more than a Mantic model or model from smaller company, even if you spent same amount of time painting both. The same applies for GW models, Librarians might sell for more than a chaplain.
I wouldn't try to price them for how much you think they're worth, but rather how much your time is worth. If the 3 bikes cost $40 and it takes you 15 to paint all, ask yourself how much your time is worth. At $5 per hour those 3 bikes should sell for $115.
Now you have to ask yourself if $5 per hour is worth your time, specially when you subtract ebay and paypal fees as well a shipping. However, it you can do all 3 bikes in 4 hours and still get $115, then that's around $18.75. That might be worth it. I would set a $/hr price that would make it worth my time and then set the starting bid at that price.
If you decide to sell, then just remember to put as many GOOD QUALITY pictures in the listing as you can. There's nothing dumber than when someone tries to sell a single HQ model for an obscene amount of money, but are too cheap to post multiple pics or simply post bad pics.

Lav25gunner pretty much sums it up nicely! I personally can't put a price on them because I would never buy a painted model unless it was an awesome deal (was offered a VERY well painted screaming bell for the price of the stok model so $60-70ish) I would take that but that's all I would buy pretty much. It all comes down to how FAST you can paint to put out table top or display case quality (depending on who you are painting for) If you had an airbrush you could bang out infantry of various kinds really quickly to table top qaulity and that would probably let you make more than $5 bucks an hour lol. It all depends on the customer (if you are doing it by commision or by ebay etc etc) you could quote them something where you would be making $150 profit (for a set of models) but then you have to keep your painting to 15 hours MAX or else it really isn't worth it (thats my opinion anyways if it is less than $10 an hour go work at Mcdicks or walmart and just paint on the side lol) EDIT: these models are nice though and could bring profit, I like the space marine group and the guy on that mammoth beast thing. I think you could make money if demand is high enough if its by commision.

I don't think people understand the point of this. I know how much to charge and the ins and outs of the business. I wanna know what you would pay. I know what the actual cost for these models would be to get them painted by 2 different paint companies.
So let's try this again. What would you pay for the models painted?

Your experiment is kind of pointless then. It is rare that what someone wants to pay and what someone charges lines up. I want to pay someone a decent value for their time, but I don't want to be charged like crazy, I'd essentially be paying a labour fee for your time. Further, normally the size of the commission and the complexity of the painting comes in to it and the painter changes their prices accordingly.
Finally, all your pictures are of fairly high standard miniatures, if you want to do the experiment and get useful feedback, post varying levels of quality, so you can scope it out.

All my pics were rated a 3-8 (two 5s) by a painting company I thought they had enough variance in them. That is my fault. I could have put a 1-2 on there I just couldn't find a picture on my comp to do so. If I found one on the web and posted it then it might offend someone.
The experiment isn't pointless if you say you would pay $100 then that's what you would pay. It's nice to know what people think on the matter.

I have to say I agree with many of the other comments here ... or rather...its very subjective.
I think those models look great, and some of them easily supass my own painting skill.
However, I would not pay to have mine painted, even though I have the financial means, I enjoy painting them myself and take pride in that I did my army myself.
So, while I may not be in the market, I am perhaps an example of someone in the market place - that is, price is not always a consideration, some people might just not want a product, even a good one.
Still not sure what answers you are looking for here....or what you are trying to figure out...so I am not sure if my feedback is useful or not.
Best of luck?
