What do you think about such squardron:
1 Griffon for accuracy
2 Medusas with breachers for anti-tank
I don't rely on Vanquishers because of BS3 and on melta's because of range
And can I shoot at flyers with artillery?

The manticore doesnt do too bad with range and the strength 10 comes in handy for cracking armor, barrage helps with killing pesky guys hiding behind ADL and accuracy isnt as big a problem with the large blast and possible multiple hits.
I used to play a vanquisher with Pask in it to give it BS 4. With my horrible luck, I would hit with the lascannon and roll a 1 on the vanquisher cannon almost every time. I may break him out again someday, just because I spent so much time converting the model and it has so much character (my pask is a squat who is in the cupola with his hammer next to him and I had to customize the vanquisher for his special needs.

I find units of basilisks do well in a generalist role, and are more than capable of busting most armour if necessary

Cant shoot at flyes with the artillery. If hydras had intercepter (pain needing 6s to hit ground units with them although TL helps) I would always take them.

Griffon's would not affect the medusa's accuracy at all as the medusa is not a barrage weapon. Overall this would be a waste of one of the model's abilities.
Try pask on the vanquisher. Expensive but pretty good. Also prescience inquisitors from inquisition allies are great for increasing any weapons accuracy.
You cannot shoot any flyer with blasts when it is zooming. If it goes into hover mode then go for it.

I agree that basilisks are not serious anti tank. This is due to AP3 which means that they usually don't get a great damage result.
Pask can improve one tank. One vanquisher that is good is still more than no good vanquishers. You will of course have to supplement him in higher point games with other anti tank. Though how you are not already bringing lascannons (probably on vendettas) is another topic.
Well your dislike for the inquisitors is not their fault. They like you just fine...they may want to question you though.
There are all of these things in 40K. Get imperial armour 1 from forgeworld and you will find commissar/command tanks with veteran crews, coaxial stubbers to improve the vanquisher's accuracy, and grizmund who gives both a single unit veteran crew (BS4) and any tank within 12" a reroll on the first miss of the turn. This is why forgeworld is awesome and I hope GW learns a few things from them. The only problem is if the forgeworld is discussed on dakkadakka be prepared for some very extreme view points.

And not enough armor penetration too.

BS4 is not so impressive, because enemy tanks still can use covers. Medusa breachers IMHO better for hitting tanks in cover (I never testet tough). And if Pask Vanquisher will move he will loose all bonuses.

Not great but not bad either. You do roll 2d6 and take best on Str9 side armour after all.

Not true. Medusa's don't do any better against cover as they are blast NOT barrage weapons. Therefore cover is same for both. I do like medusa's with breacher shells but they do have some problems with surviving return fire and are a bit less effective at penetrating most targets.

This is not true. The coaxial stubber is in Imperial Armour 1 second edition both in the leman russ unit entry and the armoured battle group army list.

So, how about two Basilisks with Griffon?
Is there any ally mages, who can improve strenght or armor penetration?

How it works? Medusa hits front armor or side? And all enemy cover saves still working?

Can I use Vanquisher with coaxial gun as a single IA unit in codex IG, without entire IA Armored Army?

Yep, you can do this. Though it is usually not worth it.
There is not really any psyker who can do this for a vehicle unit. You can however get reroll misses for 55 pts, those are great.
Freakazoitt wrote:How it works? Medusa hits front armor or side? And all enemy cover saves still working?
Medusa is blast. This means when you hit with the blast marker the shot hits the facing showing to you, has cover saves as normal, etc. In fact the only differences between blast and the normal shots are blasts hit models outside LoS if they scatter onto them and if multiple hits occur on a unit across multiple levels the hits only effect one level.
Freakazoitt wrote:Can I use Vanquisher with coaxial gun as a single IA unit in codex IG, without entire IA Armored Army?
Yep, the profile in the imperial armour 1 second edition is meant to replace that in the codex. Same slot, etc. I recommend you get the book. It is a really fantastic book for any imperial guard tank lover.

Not quite. The standard Russ entry does not get access to the co-axial stubber; only the selections from the ABG list do. However, you can always take ABG as your ally detachment, giving you c0-axial stubbers on those units. This way you could take a HQ Russ and a troop Russ or two. ABG works quite well as an ally choice, as the usual HQ tax is the best bit of the list.

I use exterminator with lazcannon, heavy bolter sponsons and Pask. That's a tac-tank. Can shoot down flyers from time to time. Can do damage to any armor and can oppress infantry. It costs alot - 235 pts but it's a tough fire platform that is good at putting threatening dakka.
If you have issues with av14 - why don't you just take stormtroopers with meltas. 112 pts and you have 2 meltas, 1 plazma pistol and you can also throw a krak nade. They can reroll deepstrike to insure you arriving where you need them so not necessarily shooting at an av 14 front through cover. That's the best way to deal with heavy armor that ig can get...at least until you can hide from interceptors.
If u're in for artillery - still nothing better than a manticore for tank hunting. d3 s10 ordnance barrages. Means if the enemy doesn't pass a cover test - you have 5/9 chance to get a pen vs a landraider with every hit..

Or don't, since it's just a fan-made unit that's about as relevant as my special lasguns that are all D-weapons.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices. |

I'd allow it. The rules/background seems pretty reasonable. I mean some drunk-ass approved the use of revenant and reaver titans in sub- Apoc games, so how bad can rocket arty on a baneblade chassis be?
EDIT: Plus, being in a situation where you can see the tau gunline 30 feet away but don't have range on it cam be enfuriating.

Oh well, excuse me for sharing my experience.
S9 with ordnance is *fine* for most armour. I've played about 50 games with them and I've never had a problem with medium armour using basilisks, and they are good anti infantry against anything bar TEQ.
