BLUF: Is anyone interested in GM'ing for a fun group of close friends over roll20?

So my friends and I are all military, but love role playing together in Deathwatch. The thing is, we're scattered across 4 different states. After coming on here a few months ago everyone was really helpful and we found a way to play via roll20 (which is fantastic.)

We played for a few sessions, but ran into a huge road block when our GM got so busy that there was no way he could continue. Unfortunately, none of us have enough experience to GM and we also want to play as part of a squad. So the result was the game being put on hold indefinitely.

Now we're all itching to get back into it, but have run out of people we can ask to GM for us. I thought "what the heck" and thought I'd check on here because everyone is so helpful.

Well dakka, what do you say?

Some advice about Roll20. Don't use the in program voice and video chat. It causes the app to crash. A lot.

We eventually switched to Ventrilo for chatting. Roll20 hasn't crashed on us since.

As for GM'ing, sorry that I can't help you there.

I'm a pretty reasonable GM with several systems, but I'm afraid I've never done Deathwatch. I am familiar with Dark Heresy though so I at least generally know how the system looks.

It would be kind of interesting, but put me down for "last ditch contact if nobody better comes along".

djones,

Definitely know what you are talking about. The voice program on roll20 was pretty terrible, with no good push-to-talk functionality and horrendous feedback. Didn't crash on us though, which was surprising.

demented,

Good to hear, I'll talk with everyone and let you know. We're a really relaxed group, and the experience is way more important to us than being 100% true to the rules. I'd love to help you come up with scenarios because I'm very well versed in fluff, it's just the nitty gritty details and rules I'm not as good at.

Sounds good to me. I tend to focus more on rules and "crunch" than really elaborate scenarios so if you want to give me an idea for what your group likes then I can take the rules and run with it. I really like being GM for games so it is a thing I could enjoy doing. I've also just accepted a job with a military contractor and I'm about as military minded as a civilian can be, in case that maters to you. No guaranties though. I'm a full time college student about to graduate, but my class load this semester isn't that big so I could probably work around it whenever you all find convenient.

At any rate, just letting you know I'm available if that's what ends up happening. If that's what you decide to do then I would need a little time to acquire the rules and get setup with the roll20 program, but not too long.

I'm one of the dudes rabid is talking about and its true, deathwatch is a blast but sadly our beloved GM Nick (despite his attempts to kill us) had to go do other supposedly more important things like work and be a productive member of society....

Anyway, like Rabid said, we are a chill bunch of dudes who play for fun and don't necessarily stick to the rules 100% (ie, if the player has a good reason for X, then roll for tests even if it wouldn't normally be possible, etc, I'm sure you all know what thats about)

Also, a warning. We are not politically correct or for the feint of heart. We are military people and swear a bunch (mostly me, because fighter pilot ), are loud, obnoxious (looking at you Tyler [Rabid] especially) and dirty minded so I hope you're cool with that.
