Against the Guard how does one score First Blood? Other than the obvious -- destroying a tank, killing some lone squad -- does it require killing all in an Infantry Platoon since these technically count as a single Troops choice. Or if one Infantry Squad within is killed does that count?

I'm thinking one squad within.

First blood is for killing a unit, not a slot. Therefore, killing a single squad out of the platoon gives FB.

Greebo had spent an irritating two minutes in that box. Technically, a cat locked in a box may be alive or it may be dead. You never know until you look. In fact, the mere act of opening the box will determine the state of the cat, although in this case there were three determinate states the cat could be in: these being Alive, Dead, and Bloody Furious.

After deployment, squads act independently. There are often small "Command Squads" that are truly easy pickings, if outside of transports.

Well... even killing a transport can give up FB.

Killing a single unit. A squad may be part of a larger unit, if the IG player combines their infantry squads. In that case, killing a unit would entail killing all the squads in the unit.

...Shoot the platoon command squad, or a heavy weapons squad.

...at which point they become a single combined squad.

Related question: never come up, but always confused me.

If, say, a Vindicare assassin kills an IC joined to a unit first turn, would that count as First Blood?

Yes. The IC is a separate unit for victory conditions.

And another question.
To have slay the warlord do you need to kill the whole command squad or the captain/colonel only?
As he is not an IC i am not sure...

The Captain is the character with the highest leadership.
So just the single model.
