Hi dakka,

So I've been swimming through the discussions on the internet and trying to find out how people adapt to the new codex. And through my investigation I've picked up on a few good units, but only a selected few of them are what I really like in terms of theme and model. So I thought I should make my own Nidzilla list, here goes:

Tyrant w/ Wings 2 TL Dev

Tyrant w/ Wings 2 TL Dev

Crone

Crone

Carnifex w/ 2 TL Dev

Carnifex w/ 2 TL Dev

3 Warriors w/ Barbed Strangler

3 Warriors w/ Barbed Strangler

So I want this list to be almost top-tier competitive, how can I make it so?

Comments will be greatly appreciated, will provide potatoes as reward.

1500pt O'Vesa Star W: 27 D: 2 L: 1
The challenge: in a 1500pt game I will play 900pt + D6x100 pts, if I roll a 6 I reroll and -100 to that second number (down to 1000pt minimum)

That's only 1270 points. The way I see it is you've got 4 FMCs getting in their face turn 1 with warriors also blasting away. The Fexes are unlikely to be in range until turn 3ish meaning they can be ignored until then. So you've 2 choices. Swap the Carnifexes for something that is a threat earlier in the game or give them longer ranged weapons.

Swapping a devourer out for a HVC on each guy gives you turn 1 threat from them. Otherwise swapping them for Rupture Cannon Tfexes would work too. If you stuck with the Carnifexes you could probably afford a 3rd (or get more warriors).

In either case Venomthropes and a Fortification is basically mandatory. There are two good options:

Venomthrope + Bunker (potentially plus barricades). This option you deploy the bunker 8" from your deployment zone and march your Venomthrope into it. This increases his bubble range and keeps him safe. The barricades provide a 4+ cover to a chunk of your force which the Venomthrope increases to a 2+. The issue is if you don't go first the Venomthrope can be exposed. Also anything with Haywire will kill your Venomthrope by glancing the building.

2+ Venomthropes + ADL. Place the ADL on the half way line and advance up behind it in turns 1 & 2. This is my preferred option and provides a 2+ cover for the army (except the Crone). The issue being you have to hide your venomthropes out of LoS or every ignores cover weapon your opponent has will point at them and kill them first. Whilst your long range fire will also grant your opponent 4+ cover.

Tyranid with fortifications...I'm afraid that it will be banned soon and that's why I'm a bit hesitant to take them right now. But if it does work I will definitely consider taking an aegis line and marching up behind it. Or even have it on an angle so I march up sideways towards the enemy.

As for the list itself, my bad I do have extra points to play with. How about this:

Hive Tyrant w/ same
Hive Tyrant w/ same
Crone
Crone
Carnifex w/ HVC
Carnifex w/ HVC
3 Warriors w/ BS
3 Warriors w/ BS
3 Warriors w/ BS
Venomthrope
Venomthrope
70 pt left for either:
a)Aegis line and commander and outflank a warrior squad for line breaker
b)17 Termagants

Sorry what? The Mawloc got just about the biggest boost in this codex. It is 30 points less. It can use Lictors to guide in now (as Lictors can start on the board and stealers can pin people in place). It gets 2 blasts if it doesn't kill everyone with the first. Finally the misshap is not a nerf but a bonus. OK on a 1 it dies. A 2-3 your opponent gets to place it and you just burrow (as you would have done anyway) a 4+ you go back into reserves and get to do the attack again a turn earlier than without the misshap. So overall the misshap is actually a further benefit not a nerf!

For the list I would drop a Barded strangler get an Aegis and give both Carnifexes a set of devourers each. Just because you're taking a HVC doesn't mean you shouldn't take another gun (as you're getting literally no benefit from a single set of Scything Talons).
