Tonight I'll finally get to play my 2nd night at my lgs and will try to borrow some Cryx to play. I'll be getting the Cryx battlegroup in the next week or so and have been looking around Dakka and Cryx lists. Im having a hard time telling how effective a list becsuse im inexperienced. So I guess my main question is, what are some things to look to tell how a list will play? Or rather what are some synergies to try and use for a good Cryx list? I'm not so much asking for a list as I am advice so I can learn to build my own, which any player needs to know.

Hope I made that clear, lol, just woke up and im at work so if I jumbled this up I'll try to clarify.

The Cryx battlebox will get you Warwitch Deneghra (pDenny), two Deathrippers, a Defiler, and a Slayer. pDenny is a top-tier caster that can be very abusive to your opponent once you really learn the game. That said, she's not a very good caster to learn the game with. Her main schtick is to sit in the back and sling spells. She's not entirely useless in combat, but it's only during desperate times that she gets her own hands dirty. She has one buff spell, Ghost Walk, which lets your arc nodes or units move about freely. Otherwise she's focused on crippling the enemy army with spells and avoiding being killed herself. It's due to that crippling strategy that she makes opponents unhappy; she stops their army from working the way it should. Good for you, very frustrating for opponent until they learn how to deal with it.

The two Deathrippers will serve you well and can be used with several of our casters. The Defiler is eSkarre's favored arc node and not bad to upgrade from a Deathripper if you have the point left over in a larger list.

The Slayer is not particularly useful outside of skew lists with the caster Mortenebra. Your best bet is to magnetize his head and arms and do a bits order for the Reaper harpoon, claw, and head. This will let you use him as a Slayer when need be and then can swap to a Reaper or Malice later without buying another heavy warjack chassis.

As far as what makes a good list, you kind of need to play the game more. Honestly, for anyone just starting out the game I highly suggest they pick up Iron Lich Asphyxious (pGaspy) as the starting warcaster. He actively participates in all phases of the game: movement shenanigans, buffs, debuffs, and offensive spells on top of having very respectable melee damage output and good defense stats. He actually helps you learn how the game works and is still a powerhouse caster at low-mid points.

The typical "good" list for Cryx involves a unit or two of our excellent melee units and a few support pieces. We aren't much of a warjack faction with only a couple of our casters really able to run more than one Heavy and most of them don't really care to do even that. One or two arc nodes is about as close as most of our casters get to warjacks.

Thanks for the reply.

I know I need to play more. Trust me I'd play alot more if they played more and was closer. I'm not sure why I posted asking thjs being so new lol. Just anxious I guess. Im was just trying to learn more on what to look for and what units to see and try to use. Which you helped out a lot with. Hopefully I'll be ready for the Steamroller or iron gauntlet starts up

This conversation may be better places in the Discussions area, but oh well.

Haha, no worries! It's a great game and we all start somewhere! I'm certainly by no means any sort of expert, but I've been around enough.

The first thing to do is select a caster that you like the look and feel of. Obviously the best way to do that is to play with various casters, but you can also ask around here and check out http://battlecollege.wikispaces.com/ for general overviews. Note that some of the advice on Battle College isn't the most sound, but it does give a decent broad look at things.

If you do buy the battle box and start with pDenny, your list can be fairly varied. Due to her debuff nature, she can make almost anything in our army decent and she makes our good units that much better. Our good units are typically considered the following: Bane Thralls, Bane Knights, Satyxis Raiders, Satyxis Blood Witches, Bile Thralls, Mechanithralls, Pistol Wraiths, and a few others. Even our lesser units like the Cephalyx aren't necessarily bad, they just don't typically offer as much for the points as other units.
