I just finished my first of three dark eldar ravagers. The nids codex blows so hard that I decided to resume my secondary army, Dark Eldar. As such, I'm resurrecting my paint blog too. Please leave comments and feel free to follow the blog for future process. Everything on the model (base, turrets, sail, trophies, banner) has been magnetized.

The Dark Eldar range is just brilliant. Makes such a mockery of my old 3rd edition force.

The Ravager looks great, though the crew are kind of blending into the background as it were (Great for camouflage I suppose )

How did you do the sail? Very cool effect there.

Random wash pattern on the sail? You already use nonstandard methods like on the canopies, looking forward to hearing how you pulled the sail off.

Best I can come up with is successively smaller layers of red wash in random patterns over white base, with a little blue wash in places instead. Am I close?

Part of me thinks its some sort of texture patterned card/fabric or something when I zoom in at the edges of the sail in a closer view... am I close or is it all painted and I'm just seeing things?

The sail is a piece of translucent film that I trimmed and fit to the plastic. The colour underneath affects the final colour. My venom canopy material was easier to work with, but this was easy enough.

Very nice idea, this is what modelling and painting is all about.

Good call Marine, that's a really cool effect. Even though I should have, I would have never guessed transparent film.
