So I got a match up, 4 way tourney coming up and I want to field 9 Ork kannons. I'm going to make the kannons from scratch. Do I have to use GW components? I came across a good deal on Lego wagon wheels. I think I can rat funk a bane blade bits upgrade to make the rest of the kannons.

The other thing I'm trying to figure out is can I have Orks man them? I can't think of anything out there that looks like grots. Is there a fantasy version of little tiny green men I can use?

Only if wherever you are playing has house rules requiring GW models only.

There is no option in the codex for Orks to man big guns.

Uh... Goblins?

Gnoblars work as well.

Well, a big gun on top of a battlewagon is manned by an ork.

You can also by a runtherd for your big gunz and have him fire one of the artillery models.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks actually do not think that purple makes them harder to see. The joke was made canon by Alex Stewart's Caphias Cain books.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

I use ancient 2nd ed/gorkamorka orks as my gun crews.

They are the same size as grots and are 'counts as ' grots. when i run them.

They are Yoofs who haven't learned not to aim yet

For the record i also have the actual grot crews, but i like my tiiiny orks

The Viletide: Daemons of Nurgle/Deathguard: 7400 pts
Disclples of the Dragon - Ad Mech - about 2000 pts
GSC - about 2000 Pts
Rhulic Mercs - um...many...
Circle Oroboros - 300 Pts or so
Menoth - 300+ pts

The discussion was about the big gun unit, not battewagons.

How?

Being able to add a runtherd to the unit is not the same as crewing all of the guns with orks.

Like stated unless there's a tourney rule saying it has to be pure GW then you'll be fine there.

The other thing I'm trying to figure out is can I have Orks man them? I can't think of anything out there that looks like grots. Is there a fantasy version of little tiny green men I can use?

Honestly yes you can. Why? Because the statline is what it is, period. If you're using big gunz then you're using big gunz, regardless whether it's manned by Grots or a pile of play doh.

My god, the answers on this thread reminded me quickly why I stopped lurking in this gak hole of a forum section.

Which is not what you said.

There is no option in the codex for Orks to man big guns.

There are three options to man a big gun with an ork: Runtherd, ICs or using a big gun as part of a battlewagon.

Attached IC's cannot fire Artillery pieces (BRB page 46 - Last sentence of The Unit).

My kannons are made of Lego wheels + battlewagon kannon bitz and some plastic card and they let me use it at Tournaments and at my local GW. then again you are best safe asking in advance, considering... who wants to pay that big of a price finecast for ... 20points.

Waagh like a bawz

Which is neither the question that was asked, nor the question I was answering.

Yes, I fully realise that my answer can be taken out of context. Well done, you win the internet.

It's fairly apparent from even a casual read of the thread though that having a single gun manned by some guy who just happened to wander past is not the situation that the OP was asking about.

A good conversion I found is to get the imperial guard heavy weapons teams and just stand one of the guns so it's elevated (like its shooting at a target far away) and use smaller bases (I don't remember what size I used but they are the same size as the necromancy scarab bases) and then just buy the Gretchen box because it is a great deal for what it is (I think it's the cheapest box per model in the game) because you get 10 grots and a runtherd (I have had luck with the boxes having extra bases in them) and when you have your bases just glue the guns on then and then in the guard box there should be three sandbags, you take a knife and cut off the knife that's stuck in them (or you can leave it, but I find they break off easily) glue that on maybe put some other bitz to make it orky (I like to stay simple with just the sandbags) and you have a kannon, lobba, or zappgun (or whatever the third is, don't take it unless you are playing for fun) the grots are in different positions than in the kannon box set but they work because most are aiming small gunz and look cool if an enemy unit is nearby

I think Scratch Built Big Gunz look better than the Offical GW's. Remember for the most part it's just a tube on sheet metal. As for wheels. I think the Lego will look pretty spiffy - but any circle will do, I've seen people use bases for wheels.

If the group you are playing with doesn't allow scratch built items in their game - I would suggest finding a new group to play you Orks in.

As for Grotz - Goblins can be found everywhere (GW -40k or Fantasy, lego, Lord of the Rings, Pathfinder, Warmachine, Legends, basically everywhere you just need to look for them). I would not use Orks or even Orcs because you want figures that stand about an inch high - this is for your own piece of mind this makes them twice as difficult to target.

Still it shouldn't be a problem to get Gretchins they are everywhere and usually very cheap.

Not loud, on fire, or explodin' yer doin' et wrong

just plasticard, 2 sizes of tube and Gw bits here and there. I have 9 of these now opponents have said nothing about lack of wheels so far and plan on using at least some in tournament play. just an easy to make option for ya.

The best gun in the galaxy won't save you If your opponent is bashing your brains out with a rock.

Looks good, thanks for sharing.

Echoing what others have said: it all depends on who you're playing at your FLGS. If they're OK with whatever you've scratch built or proxied, then that's what matters.

Cool! I like those too. They put my scratch-built Kannons to shame.
