Had a run at the new codex last weekend and hope to get another go this weekend.

After doing some reading and testing a few units last game, I hope to have a much more rounded army this time. It's a mix but i think is fairly tight given the general feelings around about the codex.

Thoughts? Less Swarmlord, more actual swarm?

Not sure what models you own but I came up with this.
I tried to keep it similar to yours but I may have strayed a little to far off course.

Total: 1745.

Basic plan is to keep the Tervigon at the back babysitting the Biovores while spawning Gants. Put your Venomthrope in the Bastion and position it to give as much cover as possible. Move your Zoans, Fexes and Exocrine as one, obliterating all in their path. Take dual Flyrants so they can't be foccussed as easy and use them to harass, buff, debuff and generally make a nuisance of themselves.

How do you plan to play the list? I always liked the SL and would like to see him do well, but I really only see him as the big threat generator. I think two exocines is a big investment in plasma - have you thought about a Tyranno and thorax gun to replace one of the exocrines? You can get some serious template action that way. Plus, he's a huge firemagnet to charge up the field. With him covering the Sl ball + vthrope, you can get a decent 3+ cover out of it with possible cata from your otherbugs. Your opponent either kills the torrentflamerbeast or the SL ball - whichever one lives will surely wreck.

First tactic would be to move the gant/venom/Tervigon ball up the centre utilising shroud and cover clearing / securing objectives and using the Swarmlord as a distraction / beatstick drawing fire or running at special characters and such.

Zoanthrope/artillery along one flank taking out what it can in trying for linebreaker/objective clearing

Flyrant antagonist towards infiltrated / scout or flyers and assistance with synapse. Should have enough between fly/swarm/zoans/Tervy.


I have thought about swapping 2nd Exocrine with Tyrannofex but like the choice of pie-plate AND 6 AP2 shots. Might investigate as I have one but never used him.
