I was in IKEA and saw these for £7, note the size.
For £14 you get just over 1sq meter of Field, For £21 you will probably never need Fields again!
I know others will say "Goto a Pound Store" believe me, I have tried about 5 now and each one had them but they had "Welcome" on them or a pattern.
It's especially good, if you combine it with the 4Ground Stuff like this..
For less than £100 you can buy a Board Paint it, drybrush it, Fields and two packs of buildings...
If you put a bit of effort in, you can add gardens etc to them.

Collecting Forge World 30k????? If you prefix any Thread Subject line on 30k or Pre-heresy or Horus Heresy with [30K] we can convince LEGO and the Admin team to create a 30K mini board if we can show there is enough interest! |

IKEA stuff is always good value. Only trouble is that being located on out of town estates, it's impossible to just pop into one in the same way you can with town center type stores.
I think Wilklinsons do a plain one at about £3-4 but thats just a standard size one.

Just to clarify a 6ft by 4ft board is
(6 ft) x 4 ft =2.22967296 square meters
So 1 square meter is just shy of 50% of the table, which is pretty good for £14.
The Wilkinson ones work out £1 more expensive for less area.
Just a thought guys if you are heading to IKEA anyway, save your pennies and grab one. A good buy.

I was actually in IKEA the other week and they also sell a decently size green plastic door mat that could be cut into crop fields. A bit like in this picture. I think it was about £9. I almost bought it, but I was quite a bright green as opposed to the more olive colour like the one in the picture above. But it may well do the job for you.

Do you think spray painting the bright green with an olive drab color or other color would bring down the tone to the pictures you provided? I'm looking for a few cost effective ways to bring some terrain like that to the table (as well as the other IKEA link).

I don't doubt the cost benefit but a 40x60cm mat makes six 8" square fields. Any more would over fill my board. Of course if you're going for the agricultural plain look (Ukraine in summer) then the larger mat will pay off.

Precisely George, I think it's only for the Russian / Ukrainian or wider open battles on the Steppe. I know that as a gaming group we were planning an Operational Zitadelle so it could be useful there.
In the West less so, and as you say more than 1/4 of the table covered looks wrong. But I'm always looking for cheap and quick options to make a good looking table without breaking the bank.
Terrain is the weakness in my collection and over the next 3 years I will upgrade alot of it (especially with more modern 1980's stuff for my cold war) but a field is a field. I want nice stuff, not amazing, but just a decent setup.
Love those plastic grass, never thought of that, I'm pretty sure a light spray, wash and highlight and they will look great.

I thought i would jump in some more for my fellow AMerikan members, i got this piece of mat at my local dollar tree for a buck.Another thing you can use and buy is Astroturf or the green grass indoor outdoor carpet that you can but at Menards or Home depot.they have three different styles.Fine ,medium and rough.
After i get my garage remodelled i will be putting it on my 5x15 foot gaming table.I am trying to get away from the Winter theme and start on Italy themed.
