I play mainly a tank heavy imperial guard army and I'm thinking about buying the Imperial armor volume one. I know that guard is getting a new codex soon so I don't know if I should wait or not. Also is it a good book and is it worth it?

It's rare that something from an IA books gets added to a codex. If you're interested in it, buy it! the new codex won't (necessarily) change anything in IA1: Second edition.

I'm not an IG player, but I like the book.

I see that was my biggest fear. I was worried that the new codex would change a lot of things and make the IA useless and out of date.

In my opinion, wait until the new IG codex, as while the changes won't necessarily be that great, the new codex will invalidate all the rules in the book, and forge world will release a pdf update. This is what happened when the previous IG codex was released.

However, if you like pretty pictures and fluff, then this is the book for you.

The book is a fantastic product with great pics, good fluff, and very high quality. I would definitely recommend it.

As for the rules. I somewhat doubt there will be big changes in the IG tanks/vehicle rules that would invalidate the rules in IA1ed2. Additionally the army list for the ABG can be used largely without owning the IG codex.

I personally bough it (and some of the other IA books) just to support forgeworld so they can make more of the same. After all buying from a company is voting with your wallet. aka if you don't buy anything from forgeworld there will not be anyone to release those pdf's.
