Hello all,
I'm working on updating my White Scars army that I began towards the end of 5th edition. I'd like to make a balanced, all comers list but my main rival is my friend's Tau which he tends to run heavy on suits and fire warriors. I know White Scars never take devastators or tactical squads without transports. I'm planning on using the tactical squad and devastators as Ultramarines allies, but I don't want to use the points for a second HQ slot until I get my army up to about 1500. Here's my list so far:

HQ
Captain, SM Bike, Relic Blade: 135pts.

Troops
6xBikes, 2 grav guns, MM attack bike, and Sargent with PFist: 236pts

6xBikes, 2 plasma guns, MM attack bike, Sargent with PFist: 236pts

6xTactical Marines, Missile Launcher: 85pts

Fast Attack
Stormtalon with Skyhammer missile launcher: 125pts

Heavy Support
Thunderfire Cannon: 100pts

5x Devastators, 3 lascannons: 130pts
----------------Total: 1052pts

The general strategy is to start the captain attached to the plasma squad in reserve with the storm talon to provide air cover when they come onto the board. The tactical and devastator squads will guard the home objective and provide some long range anti tank/heavily armored units, especially units with sky fire to give the sky talon more survivability. I'll plunk the thunder fire cannon out of LOS and thin out any light infantry. This should soften the enemy up enough so that my bike squads receive significantly less return fire when they get in-range. Against a squishy enemy like Tau, I'll charge my bike squads into combat, using Hit and Run to keep them engaged and use my long range support to finish off any survivors. Against more close-combat oriented armies I'll use my superior mobility to stay out of combat until the enemy has been suitably softened up.
I appreciate any input anyone might have, as I'm still relatively inexperienced using my White Scars. I played a great deal in 4th and early 5th using a Tyranid army, but I liked the idea of a small, elite army over the swarm tactics of the Tyranids. Thanks in advance!

Bike Captain is best with Thunder Hammer, Artificer Armour, and Shield of Eternal.

That would significantly increase his survivability. The Shield Eternal is awesome but the cost is pretty steep in the 1k point range. What do you think about just artificer armor and a storm shield along with the thunder hammer? I can probably find room for those points.

Yes for a poor mans version I like

Bike, Art Armor, Storm Shield, and Power Fist = 170pts.

Also consider Khan, for his price he is a bargain esp in a low points list like this.

I will try out Khan too. Outflanking with a plasma squad and a storm talon would be a great way to lay down some devastating close-range firepower to soften up targets for a charge next turn. How do you think the rest of the list synchronizes with my bikers? I've tried almost exclusively bike lists but I've invariably found myself wishing I had more long-range support and I don't think that I'm experienced enough to make the fragile land speeders worth their points cost yet. At least the storm talon has an extra AV point and the flyer rule to help keep it alive.
