I'm not going for points totals at the moment, but I am looking for a mostly infantry force. During a gaming convention in my local area, I picked up an Open Fire boxed set which provided me with a company's worth of models (32), a rifle platoon, and a box of band of brothers (they had a lot of smgs and I like how the poses add to the already decent number of poses provided). So with that: Tank platoon: Covered (I can use Sherman V as M4A1s, right?). Also, my primary gaming buddy also has a copy of Open Fire and will be trading me all of my Germans for all of his Americans, so I've got 2 companies worth of models.

The way I am wanting to design it is so that most (or all) of my Ranger companies have maximized bazooka potential (4 per unit selection/2 per platoon) with the option to maximize per company mortars (2xmortars) while still having the ability to select the mortar platoon (3 mortar sections, so 6xmortars).

So with that mess typed up and looking at running with about 4 companies of infantry at the moment. Note again: I'm not looking for points totals, just attempting to maximize company flexibility while minimizing costs. At the moment, I am thinking I need 12xMortars (I am getting 1 more mortar team from my buddy's box) and 14xbazookas with... I dunno, a lot more R and/or R/MG teams.

While hunting around on the flames of war website, I've seen a few company level box sets that have a decent numer: UBX03 US Rifle Company (3x60mm 4xbazooka) while for about $22 more, I could pick up the UBX09 29th Infantry Division (8xbazooka, 4x60mm) which would also include some extra terrain.

Are there cheaper options (through battlefront or any other service) that would allow me to maximize my numbers? Is it acceptable to purchase the 29th Infantry Division Box and use the models as Rangers? (I'm new to Flames of War).

If someone needs clarity on this mishmash of wordage, I'll be happy to try and clarify. My coffee is just now beginning filtering through my system.

Edit: Using the Overlord book

As far as I'm aware Ranger's just wore standard US infantry uniforms, but with an additional Ranger 'assault vest' that could carry more gear than standard webbing. They where often abondoned so any US infanty figures should do the job fine.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

Your Sherman V are M4A2 tanks. Same flavour, different description on the tin. No Firefly variants allowed though.

The US army realised they need more firepower and belatedly licensed Firefly production from the British but less than seventy US Fireflys were built and AFAIK none reached the front until Hitler was hiding under Berlin.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Awesome to both of you. I knew about the Firefly. I might model them up just to have them around.

Convert one to a recovery vehicle.
