So a friend of mine got me started and I'm really liking the game. however... after playing for like 3 months or so I don't think I've won a game yet. I play w/ his orks because he has the models already so I can play w/out shelling out for it myself and I like pretty much everything about them....except how they lose a lot. I've been reading the forums for about a month looking for pointers/tips to improve. anyhow....1000 point list. He plays a combination of space marines and GK

Battlewagon w/ Zzap gun + 3 Big shootas
9 lootas 1 mek
8 lootas 1 mek
(HQ) Big Mek w/ KFF + Burna

Warboss w/ PK, Cybork, Eavy armor
30 Ard boyz (slugga)
x2 Deff Koptas w/ Twin Linked Rokkits.

We don't play w/ objectives normally until one of us (me) gets tabled.

Also idk if this is the place for it but I had a question on deff rollas and burna boyz but i'll put this out there first.

Models available are anything as for learning purposes neither of us care about proxy's

I would put the boyz in the bwagon with the big mek. Take off zzap for a deff rolla. Run the lootas with no meks, just proxy em for more lootas.

At 1000 points put one HQ on the field.

If you want to play smart then put 90 Boyz on the field backed up by as many lootas as you can have after that. The number of dice you throw should easily overwhelm the math behind meq's limited numbers that are reliant on making risky dice rolls to save.

Unless he is playing with two land raiders of course. My friend does this a good bit. You will want either 3 deffrolla wagons, or 4 trukks loaded with powerklaw. A good way to round the list off is with a 90-120 point unit of bikes or Stormboyz to follow the vehicles and supplement one more klaw.

I am the kinda ork that takes his own washing machine apart, puts new bearings in it, then puts it back together, and it still works.

Don't take ard boyz. Count all boyz as shootas. Take extra shootaboyz for the points saved from heavy armor. Put boyz + mek in a battlewagon. Don't take meks for lootas if they don't ride in a transport. Zzap gunz on bw-s are sure fun but...the best wagon build is 1bs and a ram - making it a 100pts av14-12-10 open-topped transport. Deff-rollas are awesome on paper or when you meet a land-raider wall but in most games u'll rarely get to use it cause of pre-measurement. But it might work in a small 1k game though.
Kff mek is a solid HQ for almost every ork list, cept for probably multiple nob-bikers.

That's what i'd do having your current models + some boyz and a few conversions assuming you have no more battlewagons.

Spoiler:
1 Big Mek (HQ) @ 85 Pts
Choppa; Kustom Force Field

18 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 164 Pts
Shootas

1 Nob @ [56] Pts
Power Klaw; Big Shoota; Bosspole; 'Eavy armour

20 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 130 Pts
Shootas; Big Shoota (x2)

20 Ork Boyz (Troops) @ 130 Pts
Shootas; Big Shoota (x2)

7 Lootas (Elites) @ 105 Pts

7 Lootas (Elites) @ 105 Pts

5 Lootas (Elites) @ 75 Pts

1 Deffkopta (Fast Attack) @ 45 Pts
Rokkit Launcha (x1)

1 Deffkopta (Fast Attack) @ 45 Pts
Rokkit Launcha (x1)

1 Battlewagon (Heavy Support) @ 115 Pts
Big Shoota (x1); Deff Rolla

Models in Army: 82

Total Army Cost: 999

Yep, there are not many pks...but new edition nerfed footslogging so hard - you can't expect to get into close combat with them unless the opponent wants you to be there. So form my experience, pk nobz in footslogas are only useful when u're facing mc's that ain't characters.
Multiple battlewagon with shootaboyz with a pk nob are boss! The more - the better. They're so good - you can compete with tau and sometimes even eldar if u're a good tactitian and lucky! Don't forget, you can put one of the squad's bigshootas on a nob so you don't loose shoota shots and can have precision shots.

Deffkoptas are rather over-costed. Best used in squads of one. And feel free to swap rokkits for bigshootas if you feel that rokkits ain't working for you. Actually, bigshoota ones are not worse, however with only 1 pk i'd have that s8 shots from the back in hopes of blowing up something that can tarpit boyz like an ironclad.

Or you could make nob bikers...but they're very expensive for a 1k pts game, really.

Remember to use battlewagons as a mobile terrain. Block los on disembarked boyz, protect them from counter-charge, tankshock and divide the opponent's squads so that their overwatch won't be so strong and less models will strike you in mellee. It's all very important cause u'll struggle with closest deaths assuming u'r armor and initiative.

Thanks for the input guys. i've seen that the green tide option is seemingly one of the best ways to play but thats just more models than available so i was trying to work around it.

And since everyone seems to know more about them what should i be targeting w/ the deffrolla and if i put shoota boyz in it would i want to bring it into CC at all? I assumed to keep it just within range/use it to reposition.
