Some rumors have indicated that GW is cutting back on printing in favor of digital media. Then the other day, GW circulated an email about 2 new White Dwarf "successor" magazines, so that made me wonder: do you think there will be a printed dataslate collection? It seems to me that an almanac of dataslates released in the previous year would be a handy and welcome publication.

What do you think, Dakka?

I have a feeling that they might make the dataslates a "Print on Demand" thing. They've been doing it for a long time with Black Library stuff.

I hope so , because I will not and will not let anyone that plays a game with me use electronic only rules.

Now , I will show them why they fear the night.

I really doubt they will as this would remove the entire point of these data slates. ie to release rules that are pure profit and can balance out the GW cash flow between codex releases. If they print these then there is both risk of profits and a reduction in profit.

Honestly I prefer buying what I want when I want and if I need a physical copy then kinkos will get a visit so they can print me a laminated copy. Laminated so people can see my Be'Lakor's rules 1000 years from now and write an archaeological study on it.

Why? That seems like a strange distinction to draw? I only have digital editions of stuff. I think over time you will find fewer and fewer opponents to play as digital editions begin to replace printed material. Especially as the pattern continues you need more and more different rule sets to play a simple game between the rules, the codex, al the multiple supplements you might want to play with. That is a lot of printed material to drag around to each game.

He said "electronic only rules", not "all electronic rules". That is, play with a digital codex, as it's also available in print, but not a digital dataslate because it's not also available in print.

Personally I also hope the rules get consolidated. 40k has rules strewn over too many books and digital editions now, it's really putting me off getting back in to 40k.

I think it'd be significantly easier to get said stains of an ipad than off a print book. My wargaming books are all immaculate, I'd much sooner get greasy fingers on my phone (or ipad if I had one) that can just be wiped off easily.

I have more games than I have time to play . If GW wants to make the game unappealing to me , by way of forcing me to buy an electronic device to just get the rules , I can move right along to games with better rules and/or better minis.

Now , I will show them why they fear the night.

Would help them make money. Simple fact is, not everyone has expensive hand held computers to carry about. Besides, its faster to find stuff in-game with a book. batteries also dont go out on books.
