Daemon Princes do not have Champion of Chaos, so their only way of rolling on it is by purchasing a Gift of Mutation, which has limits to what results can be rolled (Spawndom cannot be rolled for GoM)
So, no, they can't become a chaos spawn.

thanks. that would have been hilarious!
question: if a chaos space marine becomes a daemon prince, does he keep his previous boons?

So, no, they can't become a chaos spawn.
They can also have Boon of Mutation cast on them, which doesn't have restrictions on Spawndom (although it does on Daemonhood). So yes, a Daemon Prince could potentially become a Spawn, but it's highly unlikely.

Ah, good catch! Had forgotten about that, most likely because it is a Tzeentch power... Hmm... To tell the truth, I'm unsure if they keep their boons. I know they lose all Special Rules and Wargear, but I'm unsure if Boons are, RAW a Special Rule/item of Wargear. EDIT: I should say that HIWPI, Boons are not kept. But that's just me (as I'm not certain that Boons count as Special Rules/Wargear)

The rules for spawndom states exactly what you keep.
