Subject: Have you ever looked at someone and thought they would make a good miniature?
I don't mean this in the creepy, perverted way.
But i'm sure there comes a time in every gamers life when they see some guy with a few days stubble, a trenchcoat and an eye patch (or wooden leg) and think "Damn, he'd make a great leader for my IG veterans!".
There is this one guy I know in particular who would make a great army general. He is really tall (7 foot, no joke) and has a goatee (and looks cool with it, unlike 60% of other goatee wearers). Without fail he is always wearing a bureau (who the hell wears a bureau?) and he has a penchant for smoking cigars (actual cigars, not cigarettes). This guy is just begging to be turned into a model, he looks so unconventional and awesome.
So, has this ever happened to you? :-)
+Note+ I hope this is the right place for this. I did consider posting in the off topic but I figured that the subject was related to the hobby. Sorry for the inconvenience if this has to be moved.

Here are some examples though of some people who I think would make great minis:
My brother. I see his mini as one with a 40mm base... maybe 60mm even. He is at the center wearing a doctor's coat/lab coat... goggles... pretty much looking like a mad scientist ... something like NPH character in Dr. Horrible. In front of him is a music synthesizer/keyboard type piece of equipment. Behind him would be a guitar on a stand... a saxaphone on a stand... and a small table with a journal looking thing on it... hmmm maybe 60mm will do.
My pinup artist friend. He would have a baseball cap with N7 on it.. He would be wearing a black hoody and greyish khaki-ish looking Cargo shorts. He'd be holding a Cintiq type device in one hand and a paint brush in the other... He'd be about the size of a Dark Age miniature.
My friends from the FLGS I used to frequent back in California. This would be like a unit from Fantasy... with them lined up on square bases (about the size of chaos warriors). There's be Romy dressed in red armor looking either like some armored Khador warrior like a Iron fang pikeman or a Man-O-War troop... or a warrior of Khorne... There would be Old Man Dave dressed kind of like Irusk... only taller and skinnier. RJ would be wearing garb as if he was a Winterguard soldier... but armed with a rocket launcher. His girlfriend Eileen would be a Widowmaker or perhaps dressed similar to Sorscha or somone with warcaster armor.

...the bust is based on a picture taken some years ago that has been floating around the internet. It might even have been at Hastings 2006, "The Big One".

You should probably tell him how you feel.

I've never done that but I always thought that it would be fun to make some local scene top trumps for the different characters.
Catergories like: years gaming, collection size, rules aptitude, personal hygiene, awkwardness around women etc.
Oli: Can I be an orc?
Everyone: No.

In what way? What do you think sculptors are inspired by when they make their models? They look at real life objects and put them into their art. This is no different.

I did. He was flattered (long-time war gamer).
Whatever, perhaps posting this here was a bad idea. The way I've worded it does sound kind of creepy. Just rest assured I mean it in the least-creepy way.

Do you mean he wears a Beret? Because I'm picturing someone wearing a piece of furniture for a hat with the word you used.

a bureau is a kneelength overcoat. You might call it a trench coat?

I don't think I've ever thought this of a person I knew, but I do this all the time with video game characters.
You have no idea how badly I wish there were Dota 2 miniatures were a thing. I realize Heroclix is making some (I own the starter set) but it's just not the same. I would so run Kunkka as a space marine chapter master. I'd say his Orbital Bombardment was his ghost boat.
Would be so cool.

Huh, sounds like half the neckbeards at my local shop... unconventional? Undoubtedly. Awesome? Only in their own minds.

Create amazing 'mini me' versions of you and your family at Asda!
We’re trialling an exciting new service – offering you the chance to create a detailed 3D printed miniature version of you and your family while you’re doing your weekly shop!
In a UK supermarket first, we’re trialling the pioneering technology at our York store from Tuesday (October 15) and prices start at just £40.
Read what the Daily Mail had to say about our exciting new service here.
Just step into the scanner and we create a detailed digital model which is then sent away to be printed in ceramic.
Asda 3D printing
Anything can be scanned – including people, pets and even cars – and the models can be produced in full-colour, white or a bronze-style coating.
The technology produces highly realistic ‘mini me’ figurines at whatever scale you like!
To build the digital model, the whole surface area of the subject is scanned with special cameras in two minutes.
The shape is then recreated in 3D by spraying ceramic fluid in thin layers to build a solid object.
People are creeped out because this sounds like a bad
episode of Dr. Who.

I think I'd make a good miniature. I possess shocking facial beauty, with a physique far superior to most, and my hair is unique - curly black locks. I also have impeccable taste in fashion as I only let quality designs touch the glittering fortress that is my body.
My model would be how I dress in real life basically. Black leather shoes shining like mirrors, brand new Le Chateau faded blue jeans, no t-shirt on, but a zip-up Calvin Klein high-collar light jacket - which is left unzipped of course to show off my hardbody. All of this topped off with my beautiful smile and dimples, and my bad ass black curls with twinkling gold diamond hoop earrings in each earlobe. Yeah, that sort of gak would need Forge World resin to capture.
Arrogant enough for ya?

Never looked at anyone and thought "you'd make a good mini" I have looked at people and thought "you'd make a good example!"

Oh yeah, it's totally lack of social interaction and zero sex life that makes people think things like these are creepy:

Keep the context of these forums in mind. This is a miniature forum. Miniature forum. Miniature.
It's what we do. This topic is not out of place or extraordinary here, the way a random doll that looks just like your neurotic mother showing up in your home suddenly would be. Nice try though, smart ass.
