New game just out of Green Light on Steam. It's based on the German table top RPG 'The Dark Eye' universe and simulates its core rules. So far I'm moderately impressed. For its price point I think its pretty good.

Pros;

-Interesting story. Haven't decided if its good or not yet. It does a great job keeping you in the dark.
-Expansive and detailed character creation with a very wide array of options for the player.
-One of the first games I've played to tout using your environment to your advantage that actually allows you to use your environment to your advantage.
-Fun characters, some of them the usual RPG fair but with some interesting twists (the elf ranger is a stoner and it comes up in the story)
-Quite challenging on higher difficulties
-Variety of maps presenting different challenges for the player, some quite creative
-Solid enjoyable combat system

Cons;
-Some environmental things are not explained well (my character got instant killed by a falling rock and it took awhile for me to figure out how it happened)
-The voice acting can be a little stale and the animation was notably not the focus of the game
-Combat can sometimes screw you via bad luck which can be quite frustrating
-Not a huge fan of the obnoxious wound system used in the game myself

I personally suggest the game for fans of Dragon Age and Neverwinter Nights. Also if you like Gladius (greatest game eva) this game is somewhat similar.

I saw this the other day while perusing the Steam Store. I'm going to get the deluxe version next paycheck. I like the design/look of the characters. Its what originally drew my eye... what is sealing the deal is that it is turn based strategy. I get a kick out of those types of games.

In fact doesn't it seem like there's a bunch of them coming out? Yay for me!

I had a look at this game, I'm still sitting on the ropes about whether I want to get it now or wait for a steam sale. Is it worth the price currently? I love a lot of these strategy turn based games with good character customization.

The game wasnt really able to pull me in. Its rather "Meh" imho.

First of all, it has that obnoxious "feature" of randomness in its combat. I actually restarted my first Game and poured all my points into my Characters Weapon-Skill to get a _halfway_ decent hitrate. And there are still battles where I was majorly screwed over because my Party just REFUSED to hit that almost dead Enemy.

The Wound-System is utter BS. Its not that bad in the first chapter, but once you hit Chapter 2 and higher, the Game really goes to town with this gak. If you're unlucky one or more of your Characters stacks some wounds early in a Battle somewhere out in the Dungeons. You now have to deal with an even MORE decreased hitrate, less damage and other nasty debuffs. You _could_ potentially heal them with Bandages, but guess what. They have a failrate too! (A very bad one at that, if you dont pour tons of points into wound treatment, they fail over and over.)

Now, combine all of the above with the following. (Spoilered, just in case)

Spoiler:

Later on, there are multiple Battles in a row without the means to actually heal up or back out. Depending on what Difficulty you play on, prepare to restart multiple times until you get that one "perfect run".

Also, the "Flashback" Sections can majorly feth you over depending on how you've built your Character.

Like LorofHats mentioned, the Combat in itself would be great, and there are lots of tactical Elements and the Story is interesting (Im not a big Fan of the Voice-Acting in most Daedalic Games tough. They have some very good but also very bad ones.). But there's just a ton of little things that drag it down too much.

There is a dermo you can try if you aren't sure. Personally, I think that if you like turn based RPG's, there aren't that many to chose from and of the current offering I think Blackguards is one of the better games available. Especially if you like a challenge, Blackguards can be quite challenging if for no other reason than inherent aspects of its mechanics.

Agreed. The wounds are by far my least favorite aspect of the game. I poured points into maxing my entire party's constitution to combat it and it didn't seem to help much and I was playing on medium difficulty so on harder modes it much be a pain.

After that, my second biggest gripe is their magic system. This game looks mod friendly so I'm hoping someone adds something to increase the regen rate on mana as it is way too low.
