I'm not asking how it's done (well in a sense I am), I am asking how you, as an individual do it. I have seen people try to put something in the middle and measure in from that, Ive seen people try to figure out the short edges, and a lot of times, Ive seen people just ignore that they rolled the 3 on the d3, and then go with a 50/50 roll to deploy a different way.

My local just uses the largest table edge.

Also generally we ignore vanguard and just play dow/haa

Roll a D6 1-3 the diagonal starts in one corner, 4-6 the other corner.

I have little plastic deployment zone strips that I lay out after we draw a tape measure from one corner to the other...

You can see them here:

Then you just deploy 12" from that strip using your tape measure to ensure you aren't too close. It's really quite easy.

Huh, thats interesting that you randomly choose which corners to use. I usually just go with the first person to deploy chooses which corner they want.

that's true - you could just as easily do that I suppose! I would go with either way my opponent wanted to do it.

I do it this way:

The player who won the roll to choose side, picks a corner.
From that corner, you measure 33.5" along the short table edge and 50" along the long table edge. Then connect those two points with a line of dice.

I just run a tape measure from one corner to the other. (Or a string.) And just measure from that.

I've always played so that whoever wins the roll to choose sides gets to pick whatever corner they want.

As to measuring your zone, a pretty close measure that's worked for me is to go to my corner, measure 14.5" from one table edge, 22.5" from another, place a marker at each. My opponent does the same, and that makes it so each of us end up marking one deployment zone end for the other. Connect the spaces in between, double check that everyone is at least 24" away before we start, and battle it out.

I have a length of string with blu-tack at each end.
Fairly simple and travels well wrapped around one of my counter / token containers.

We've been doing it so the person who picks a long table edge decides which corners for triangluating.

Same as above. Then go one step further and tie 12" lengths to the centre string, with two more long string sections parallel to the first. Voila, instant divide and deployment line.

Use diablo string - cheap, strong, thin and really, really bright colours available.
