So apparently, my buddy posted on here with an advertisement looking for help and he was met with a little animosity. Since I have been on here for a long time, I will take over and give the info he was trying to express in a nutshell:

-We need a 3D digital artist preferably(but not nessessary) with experience modeling for print
-We have 0 money, we are going to kickstarter our game, as we have no investors atm and can only offer the following in way of compensation: a free copy of the game assuming it is funded and releases, possible compensation on the back end depending on funds raised and work completed. Other than that, and something to do for freelancers with an opening, we simply don't have any money to give for any work done(at least in the short term, as my two partners and I are all atleast 1000 dollars out of pocket at this point :/ )

We had a long-time friend of mine doing all of it, and he is still doing some, but he recently lost his job and has been working freelance, and his schedule is just way too all over the place to rely on.

If anyone has the time and interest in doing us this favor, please feel free to PM me at anytime, I will likely reply to you within the hour.

Thanks for your time!

It's a little soon to claim the thread was met with animosity when only one person has replied in the 7 or so hours it has been up.

I think you underestimate the amount of work you're asking people to do.

At a bare minimum, you need to at least tell people what they'd be working on. I've done 2D art for free before, but only because I believed in "the cause", so to speak.

Not to quash any aspirants, but I must chime in with AlexHolker in saying that your expectations are a bit out of whack.

If you are making a board game with miniatures, the miniatures are much more than half of the effort involved. Asking someone to design the miniatures while you take the rules writing/2d art side of things is a very unbalanced partnership.

I didn't realize only one person had commented on it, not exactly as extreme as he described it to be.

@AlexHolker: I assure you I am fully aware of the quantity of work I am asking for. With 4 years experience modeling myself (college) and the fact my friend who is doing some of it for us has been doing it professionally for 3 years now, I have a very good concept of the scale of the work I am requesting.

As much as I would like to show some work on our project, we haven't announced it publically yet and not all of the legal paperwork has been finalized. We are trying to keep the project as top secret as possible.

Each piece should be between 10-15 hours completion time, and depending on speciality, we are looking for both human characters and various monsters.

In any case, any professional that has the time and/or interest will know their limits and maybe give us what we are loooking for.

Only time will tell, but I hope someone can help us out!

Ninja'd me, all the character modeling sheets are completed, all that needs to be done is the modeling. I am doing all of the 2D work for the game which comprises of more than 200 assets, so there is no shortage of work for me or anyone else, I assure you!

Honestly, you keep saying how you don't have any money and at the same time expect someone to create the digital art for a game - that may not even get funded - for free? Apart from sounding extremely shady you seem to be ignoring the irony that comes from asking someone to do for free that which you cannot yourselves afford to do in the hopes that you might profit from it.

There's also the fact that we have only your word to go on that a project actually exists and that you're not going to just nab the work and run. Stuff like this is worth a lot, as you already acknowledge by stating how you cannot afford to hire services; forgive people if they're not exactly lining up to give away their work.

Fact is that you have given extremely little worth risking this kind of work and effort for, and provided so many ways where it can go tits up. I'm not sure about anyone else but I can certainly see why you're receiving animosity.

Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Frankly I would recommend putting the project on the back burner so you can save up some money to pay a sculptor. A Kickstarter that is having trouble even getting 3-d master models made doesn't sound like much will come of it so you could have trouble getting funding even once you start it up. Its also just bad business to have someone do that work for free.

Alternatively, try hard to find an investor. If your idea for the game is good you should be able to find someone willing to pick it up. Get the game mechanics down and use that as a selling point. Models are really a secondary consideration. If you can't sell the game as a ruleset having some cool models wouldn't help it much. And artwork will have just as much weight as an actual model will when trying to pitch an idea.

Well to anyone who has worked as an industry professional knows that no project will give any information pertaining to the project until an NDA has been signed and therefore the company asking for help is protected. Simply the nature of the beast. Our company name is Partial Arc LLC, the company has legally been started as can be looked up in any general business records for 2013-14. We have no games released as of yet as the company has only officially existed since last November.

For non-experienced professionals, the process of application/ employment will be conducted as follows:

-Contact to me expressing an interest
-details to experience, specialty, completion times
-NDA given to potential employee to be signed and resent
-Call or online messaging between client and professional pitching the game, some details, what we have, what we are looking for

That is how it will operate (as it usually does through contract work, minus compensation negotiation) as because this is all new to us, and we are learning as we go along, we can ill afford to have anything released prior to the game going public. I have worked as a contract artist/ illustrator for 3 years, and have been in the gaming industry for 4, and that is how it is always done through my agency.

Yeah, it's incredibly dodgy that you're wanting people to sign a contract so you can sue them before you'll even tell them what genre they'll be sculpting your free models for.

What I can say is this: it is a cooperative board game, 2-5 players, with many different characters, leveling and combat against monsters.

That is all I can say until the game is public. And a standard NDA protects the company in the event the professional DOES break the NDA and releases assets without the consent of the client.

Regardless, the obvious impression that I am receiving from this request, is that any forum based website is the inappropriate place to ask for such requests, as many who don't even have experience within that which is being requested, express baseless opinions and accuse those asking of being money grubbing thieving jerks.

I am deeply saddened by this as I expected more support from a community I love than to be met with baseless, immediate animosity.
