Hi all, I've got a hankering to play chaos, and I'm not too into vehicles. As such, I'm looking for the most competative chaos list that infiltrates around. This is what I was thinking. Lieutenant-lightening claws, furious charge, mark of undivided, infiltrate, speed, strength, mutation/135 Lieutenant-lightening claws, furious charge, mark of undivided, infiltrate, speed, strength, mutation/135 TROOPS 4 x 8 marines-MoCU, infiltrate, true grit, 2 plas, aspiring champion, power fist, mmutation / 210 6 Chaos marines-las, plas/102 HEAVY SUPPORT 8 havocs-tank hunters, 4 auto cannons, infiltrate, MoCU/232 8 havocs-tank hunters, 4 auto cannons, infiltrate, MoCU/232 8 havocs-4 heavy bolters, infiltrate, MoCU/188 Total: 1864 So I need to trim 14 points. I'm thinking of downsizing the lietenants a bit, but I'm not quite sold on it, they're so tasty as it is. Aside from that, serious amounts of monoliths could give me trouble, as could hordes o' assaulters (ala spinegaunts), but assault cannons would have limited effect, and I pump out enough S 8 shots to make the invincible falcon think twice (I think...). The plas also has me a little worried because it is dangerous to my men, who are no longer totally expendable (I've been playing guard). Finally, I like true grit on the marines as it allows them to either fight in CC or shoot with bolters. That's diversifying them which Dakka generally looks down on. Would you recomend that I drop it? Should I give the marines CCW/BP? Finally, I'd be forever indebted to the kind soul with 60 chaos marines sitting on their sprues with nowhere to go, willing to sell. cheers

if you need to trim pts, easiest place is the plas in the 6man squad, it turns them into your automatic first deployment (if the enemy has infiltrates, you deploy this squad normally to claim space)
the HQ are fine at 2x ratboy, but imo ratboy can just be 96 pts. they definitely don't need MoCU. and they'll do the same job without the other upgrades, ie. slice 3-4 guys open
u could easily turn one of them into ninjaboy (sorry, our group's names for these suckers) with str8 from str, darkblade, and furious and then he can go slice open anything.
are these LT's legal actually? i think you might have too much gifts on them.
my 1500 pt list for comparison: everyone has infiltrate apart from the oblits everyone has MoCU apart from the oblits and the HQ's
ratboy (LT) speed infiltrate lightning claws frags 96 ninjaboy (LT) speed infiltrate darkblade ccw frags strength furious charge spiky bits teleport homer 132
3 oblits 210
8 guys, 2 plasma, 5 bolters, pfist/bp champ 176 8 guys, 2 plasma, 5 bolters, pfist/bp champ 176 8 guys, 2 melta, 5 bp/ccw, pfist/bp champ 176 6 guys, 1 las, 5 bolters, 111
8 havocs, 4 autocannons 4 bolters tankhunter 232 8 havocs, 4 h.bolters 4 bolters 188
1497
note that i've almost got the same amount of hurty in there, but at 350 pts less...

I am playing Alpha Legion too.
Typically, at least one of the Lts. should be under 100 points, if you can do it. Any extra points costs isn't marginally as good as the extra points spent. Replace LCs and D. Strength / D. Mutation / Furious Charge with just a Dark Blade for one of them. No need for D. Mutation, for either of them - if anything, just replace with Spiky Bits (a good rule for anyone with >1 wound), that will save you 5 points each, with pretty much the same effect, (if you ever do hit three/four times in combat, meaning you don't get a re-roll, you should be happy as it is). Also, you also need Frag Grenades for both of them....
Really, I think you can reduce at least 14 points just with the changes above.... Do your six Chaos Marines have Infiltrate? If not, consider it for 6 points.... An entire army infiltrating is great.... If you have points to spare, definately do it. True Grit is interesting.... Never considered it, but sounds good if thats your plan. I personally like Cultists, so consider them for nothng else than to freak out an opponent who might think you also have Daemons, (and overly focuses on killing them first round, leaving you more troops to assualt early).... Lastly, I really like having just one Oblit who can deepstrike behind a vehicle, or even take out a character not in a squad....
Hope that helps....

I didn't think Alpha Legion could get True Grit...Thought it was Nurgle only.

It's a veteran skill, right? If so, I see no reason that they can't take it, otherwise, I've got a hundred points to play with (woot!).
cheers

Actually, True Grit isn't a veteran skill, at least not one that Marines can take. Only the Nurgle marines can have it.
