TLDR: Have many WHFB empire mans. Do not want KoW mans. Do I:
1.) Sell mans cheap, buy mantic undeads... OR
2.) Use way less undeads to make mans into many zombies? OR
3.) Proceed with your much better idea (please to elaborating below).

Hi guys, here's the story:

I'm trying to begin the process of liquidating my old WHFB/40k models to make way for more sensible and complete projects. Basically, save for some minor exceptions, I want to eliminate my fantasy stockpile and switch out to having a single large KoW undead army. It will be a composite force containing old GW skeletons and Tomb Kings, lots of Mantic KoW undead, and several odds and ends (mostly characters) from reaper bones2.

I have roughly 3000 points of 6th edition (roughly. some older, some newer) empire dudes. Probably 100-150 models, there are some horses, but the riders mostly have guns which I'm not so sold upon. There are several wizards and some will definitely become necromancers. What I'm trying to decide is what to do with the horde of state troops and remaining militia. The greatswords are probably useless being single part metal. Probably half of the potentially viable infantry are missile troops. I have extra arms and heads. I have roughly 20 zombies and 10 ghouls to work with on hand, and don't mind getting more if the project is worthwhile.

My main concerns are scale differences between the zombie parts and the state troops/militia, and if its worth using the older models at all compared to the spiffy mantic undead.

Another thought is that if I chuck everything up to the 'Bay, and sell it successfully for 1-200 monies (gotta see what all I still have exactly, and what other people are asking...), I could buy a *lot* of mantic undead... AND it woudln't all have to be poofy state troop zombies and angry mob style militia zombies.

I may have to try some conversions and see if it's possible at all, but assuming that it is... What do you guys think? If I did everything as half(interpose tops and bottoms, or both arms and head etc) or even quarter zombies (arm and head swap only), I could get a LOT of friggen zombies. Are zombies even good though? I've got more skeletons than I know what to do with, but there are other mantic undeads I could purchase, and I have plans to use ogres as werewolves (ogre ghouls ftw!).

Thoughts, suggestsions? Thanks for reading

The middle of nowhere

You could do the whole zombie thing with them. Paint them a nice dead grey and dust them with a weathering powder then seal it in.

It is the way of Fenris. We stay as long as we can. Fight as hard as we can. Kill as much as we can. Only when we can do no more do we move on.

Sometimes you gotta roll the hard six!

You mean the ogres? Or just on the empire guys instead of bits swapping?

Sell off the metals and any plastics you don't see a counterpart for in the undead army and use the money to buy a Mantic army set. Use the bits to convert your Empire guys to zombies. You don't even have to convert that much, just paint their garbs dirty and their flesh pallid, with blood oozing from painted-on wounds. Stick a spear, arrow or axe into their bodies here and there and voila! easy and nice-looking zombies. I did just that some years back and it looked cool. Mantic zombies and ghouls come with extra heads, so you can use these to spice up the Imperials further.

You don't know the value of what you've got there.

6th edition empire goes for good money on ebay, it is often more popular than 7th edition, due to the 7th edition releases looking horrible. Especially the state troop plastics on sprue which tend to sell for a good % higher than their original RRP from GW.

Sell up and buy mantic. Your first assumption about more minis for less money by converting valuable OOP Empire minis is definitely wrong. One regiment of OOP state troops sold on ebay could get you 80 mantic zombies.

Recommend going on http://warhammer-empire.com/theforum/ and posting in the trade forum (need to log in to see it), you'll get an excellent price for any 6th edition stuff there (especially state troop plastics and any metals).

If you have metal 3rd-6th edition Empire state troops, especially halberdiers, I'd be interested in buying some from you

Day. I mean I knew that I liked them more, didn't realize it was practically a movement

I'll have to see what I still have. Some got drug into an imperial guard project but a bit of break down and cleaning should help. I've always had many extra arms. Gonna have to sort and take pictures of everything before I can move it, so I will update here when that happens in case of interest.

Thanks for popping by, gives me a bit to think about

Now that I'm at my keyboard...

@SS, a veritable trove of knowledge and information as usual Thanks for the tips, sounds like I need to do some more work but could definitely do better than I was planning.

@Judgedoug I know that at one point I had 80something state troops, of which at least 20 were missile troops but... I'm pretty sure I've got arms on sprues as well. Give me some time to dig stuff out and get it sorted. I know I had a unit of halbrediers but at least some of them got made into crossbowmen. Probably still have arms though. Everything got painted for the most part, like... first things I painted, painted. Still, proper stripper should make things pretty serviceable. Since you expressed interest, I'll be sure you've got first dibs at stuff once I've got it sorted.

Yeah selling them and buying more mantic is probably the best course of action.
