It is commonly accepted by most that shoota boyz are better overall then slugga boyz in the current edition of the game and codex.

I will go on to say though that each has its uses in certain situations. In a BW, shoota boyz can actually shoot out of the vehicle if you aren't moving flat out. Sluggas/Choppas can't.

yes, i find it usually is to have a lot of S+C boys, and a couple units of shoota boys to hold stuff/.

shoota boys you use for mid feild to hold stuff, choppa boys to get across and kill stuff/contest/cap

2 str 4 shots at 18" that hit on 5'svs 1 str 4 shot at 12" on 5's isnt huge, add to that the str 4 CC attack you gain, which hits on a 3+or 4+ at worst, and ignores cover ect, + the added bonuses that come with CC (being hidden from shooting from a turn or wiping out the ENTIRE enemy unit)

you use the shootas for what they are best at... standing a bit aways and holding stuff, shooting them is unlikly in a CC role, as you will either need to run, or shooting before the charge generally helps you to fail a charge... killing 1-2 guys when you could have SA the whole unit

sluggas are for getting to grips with the enemy ASAP... if they shoot at all, its a bonus, as they will be running anyways most of the time, and not wanting to increase their charge distance with a casualty or two anyways

its only on the net that shootas are better then sluggas.. on the table I kill far more with S+C's... the internets seems to ignore sweeping advance, CC, denying your enemy use of his shooting attacks, being able to attack in the enemies assault phase, and hiding in CC as benifits to running S+C boys,

wagon rush is all about the S+C boys... flat out the 18" and turn two asault... BW rush is what I use, to great effect, and it synergies far more with S+C boys then shoota boys.

That's what I was thinking, but I keep hearing that shootas are far better than sluggas. I have Two unitsa of boyz in wagons and one in a trukk, I use the trukk to either grab an objective, or help where needed. Should they all be sluggas? Or should I put some shootas in the trukk

they only are "better" in a total vaccuum where CC doesnt exist... hence the internets mantra of "always shootas" ... tactically there is plenty of reason to enhance the orks CC attacks over their shooting attacks, BW assault vehicle builds will rarely see your guys fire.

for holding mid ground, and generally staying put and being shot at, shootas all the way, or grots for cheaper lol

for taking ground and killing stuff, S+C in BW's or trukks all the way, if you are shooting out of a trukk, it means you are snap shooting if it moved up to 12"... and not shooting if it flated out.. so whats the point of the extra shot when you dont shoot...

3 BW's sheilding 3 trukks (or scaled down for whatever pts you have) is something that does well... im now 8win - 1 loss with that, and orks with max BW and trukk, and a unit or two of shootas or grots to hold obj' is something even the shooty armies cant handle
4+ transports in one go before you get enough boys into combat. 20 boys with nob will wreck a whole army if they have no counter CC units, so try to send more then 3X that at them and generally I find only one or two of my BW gets popped (if that, lots of times they dont have enough to take out 4 av 14 hp's) then the trukks plug the gaps, and the survivors still make it into combat.

the rule is, if you want the ork to be in CC, go for the S+C.. 3 attacks base is huge, and as they say

dont matter what gun you have, when your enemy is bashing your head in with a rock.

shootas are fairly easy to out range and kite as well... they are not as good as peple give them credite for once you take them out of the internet vacuum any decent player with 24" range ranged infantry will decimate them as they can just move 6" back, shoot you, and force you to advance out of cover to return fire.
