The question is, when a challenge in finished, and one model dies, but there are multiple characters and the squads are still in combat for several turns, can a new challenge be issued?

RAW have two contradictory sentences in the BRB (i have the small version)

PG 64 "Only one Challenge can be issued per close combat"

PG 65 "Even though further challenges cannot be issued in a combat until the existing challenge has been resolved..."

To me this says, you can only have one challenge active at a time, and if refused or resolved a new one can be initiated.

Those are my thoughts, could you answer the 3 questions below, evidence and conjecture are welcome.

So can there be more than one in combat if one is resolved?

I assume if someone is killed via a challenge you must wait till the next turn to challenge again, as that model has already used up their attacks, is this true?

If a challenge is refused can you then challenge the other character or would you have to wait until the next turn, as no combat has yet be resolved?

in a single assault (which would contain every unit tied up together), you can only have 1 challange going on.

If one of the Characters involved in the challange is killed, either player may then issue a new challenge on the following assault phase.

If a challenge is refused, either player can issue another challenge on the following assault phase (note that if you issue a new challenge, the character removed from combat the previous turn is returned to the fight).

Only 1 challenge can be issued and accepted or refused per combat, per player turn. The player who's turn it is can choose to challenge first, and if he opts not to issue a challenge, the other player can do so is he so wishes.

Basically, at the start of the Fight sub-phase, you check if there are any ongoing challenges in the combat. If not, you can issue 1 challenge that player turn for that combat - whether or not it is accepted. Next turn, you repeat.
