If you take one of the HQs from the Taros campaign book, can he be the warlord for a farsight army with tau allies, or can he only be for tau empire codex primaries?

It should state which army he can be included in. If it doesn't state Far-sight enclave specifically, then you cannot. :/ (AFAIK)

Why couldn't they be warlords in a Farsight army? I don't have the Taros book, but presumably it says something like "Such and such is a HQ choice in a Codex: Tau Empire Army." Farsight Enclaves can take stuff from Codex: Tau Empire, thus they can pick FW stuff that can be taken in Codex: Tau Empire army, including these characters.

Ah that is a good point, that farsight chooses its entire army list from the codex, so yeah I would argue they can be taken as HQs for a primary attachment, since the farsight rules only limit what special characters can be taken, and allow crisis suits to be troops.

But as said, FE takes from the "tau empire" and modifies a few rules, taros ADDS to the tau empire, not having its own list or anything, therefor by chaining rules the taros characthers SHOULD be legal in a FE army.

Though forgeworld was asked before, and the answer is along the lines of "we will FAQ it, some will be allowed, some not", it was months ago and no FAQ.

Typically when dealing with Forgeworld models, you can actually ask them. They respond pretty quickly to rules inquiries that are easily answered. I had a question about Shadow Captain Korvydae as a friend was planning on picking it up and having me paint it for him, and was curious if there were any changes for him. They basically said run him as is but with the additions of Chapter Tactics: Raven Guard.

It took maybe 2 days? I was impressed. Too bad that level of customer service doesn't extend to GW proper's FAQ/Errata inquiries.
