Im playing with my brother and some friends and wanted to know if I was missing something im not seeing or Im not making the most out of my dream list. This isnt to win tourneys per say, I just love Tau and how they have mechs, like Gundams, so that's what I based my list off of mostly, suits. Im not sure what else info you need but if any questions or help would be greatly appreciated.
Lists sits at 1784 as of now.

That is why I love them too! + I would run a Buffmander with this list. By far the best option for Tau. + Always add EWO to your IA Tides and Broads. + You have too many ML is this list, you are sacrificing firepower. + Have you looked into Farsight Enclaves as an Ally? You could make your XV8 suits scoring. + Missing some AA. + I personally don't like Devilish, but its up to you seeing you are not making it competitive. But I would at lest give then SMS. Just some pointers. I hope this helps

Ok, will update list as soon as I get the chance. You mentioned too many ML, what else do you suggest to take? And what do you mean take Farsight as an ally, isnt he part of my codex? He's in my HQ section at least...and I took 2 Devilfish just bc I thought I needed mobility, specially for obj games...was I mistaken to think this?

There is the Tau codex and then there is the Farsight Enclaves which is a supplement. I suggest looking it up, have a good read and also search some list on this forum so you have a good idea.

Ok will do. Taking my wife out and will take a look at the book at nearest store, Texas Toy Soldier, crazy to think you can 'ally' with your own people just bc it's a supplement lol.
I edited the list to what people suggested, and I see some good changes, been talking it over how things would work, and definitely feel better about going against not just flyers, but also deep strikers as well. Friend we play with do Raven-wing and whatnot and love to deep strike...

Well if you were going to be playing competitively there would be a lot of problems with the list, but since you aren't it looks fine. The Pathfinders are bad IMO because they are just easy first blood. I would also drop the Etheral too. Its OK, but I think running a Buffmander and attaching it to a Riptide would be a lot better. Also, an R'Varna... really. I wont lie, I have 3 Gundams with Tau bits that are my "counts as" R'Varnas, but if you are playing 40k in what you described to be a smaller group of gamers, this thing is just going to be brutal. You already have double Iontide too. I think it was said earlier too, but one Riptide MUST be a Bursttide with EWO and VT. It will be pretty much your only means of taking down fliers. I would also suggest checking out the Farsight Enclaves supplement. It provides Farsights Command team which is kinda cool, but one of the best parts are the fact that Crisis Suits are now Troops (scoring units) and the Talisman provides the much needed Psychic defense. You might want to consider running a couple teams of 3x Broadsides with HYMP. Attach a Buffmander to them, and you are going to have some very strong ranged firepower.
If you have any more questions feel free to ask. I am a pretty experienced Tau player. Although I haven't been playing THAT long, I have done my reading and my Tau Codex is like a Bible to me. lol. Anyway, I hope this is helpful.

Thanks for the info, just had a few questions lol.
1. If i was to use this in a more serious way, what makes it lack the luster for competative play?
2. Why are the pathfinders so bad? They are by far better than Tetras now via markerlights and I was just running 3 squads of 5 but due to rolls sucking got maybe enough for 1 squad to shoot per pathfinder squad. With 10 I have enough to throw at least 5 ML down and it's usually enough to wipe out squads which in turn protect the Pathfinders, till usually turn 3 at least.
3. I love the R'vana so I took it. Not to mention I was going to house rule (that's if it turned it was just too OP against the other gamers) that it only gets x1 instead of x2.
4. I might look into the ally with Farsight, but I just havnt messed with a list enough to add him into the mix and still get my Ripes and Broads...will make a list now though and play with it.
5. I had the missles on it and other people told me I had too many...also I noticed I didnt have large AV poping ability so I threw the rifles back on.
6. I didnt have AA before but I recently edited the list and put a Aegis with gun and also my ides have AA capabilities, which again Im thinking of throwing on my Broads instead, still crunching those numbers.
Hope Im not spamming questions lol, but I have been editing the original list with the changes, I didnt want to keep posting list after list. Specially if another Tau player comes across this thread he can see the revised list from the start.

For competitive play you need efficiency, you'll also want AA and 1 Icarus isn't going to cut it. Here's the issue with your list as is:
ADL is good but Icarus is a poor weapon and you have no one suited to firing it. Keep the ADL dump the gun get your AA elsewhere.
Buffmander needs a PEN chip but would also benefit from NWSJ, VRT and possibly a DC.
Elites are a complete mess. Why VTs on Iontides? Just throwing away 40 points to make 2 units that are crap AA into two units that are still crap AA. I just don't get it?
Why plasma and missile on the crisis? Go double plasma or double missile. You don't want to be wasting shots by having a mix. Crisis should always come with two of the same gun.
Troops are 8s again for no apparent reason. Go with 6 or 9. 6 is cheap and takes 2 FWs to cause a morale check just like your 8s where as 9s shift that up to a 3rd. 8 just makes no sense.
R'Varnas are very powerful and expect that to get fixed when they get proper rules. It will win you games on its own particularly against Nids.
Railsides?!??!?!? Are you kidding me? Missilesides are the only choice give them EWO and they are great AA as well as anti-everything that isn't AV14. Max missile drones is an auto include.
330 points on MLs when you already have a Buffmander is also a waste. Take a Mark'o instead or a couple of Skyrays. Pathfinders are the weakest source of MLs in the current dex. Spamming them is again baffling and you don't need that many MLs.

Neways, I made some changes after reading a few other posts/threads that I think I could pull some things together from, So tell me guys if this looks better. Automatically Appended Next Post: Ok I keep hearing this Marko term used in other threads and whatnot, now I have no idea what that was so I quickly Googled it and it seems (correct me if im wrong) is just a Commander +drone controller? Then you add markerdrones and also attach him to a markerdrone unit? I can see this is helpfull due to BS5, and also BSF, but I'd be trading 3 different squads of ML for 1...so yes Im sure i'll get tons of hits from the marko but is it worth the only 1 squad getting hit with them? From my past games, the 3 squad Pathfinders have lit up people around turn 2 and I usually either kill almost full units or imobolize most vehicles b4 they are even a threat.
From yalls experience, which would you choose and why, and how do you balance a Marko AND a Buffmander?
