Neophyte Undergoing Surgeries
|
Here's a new list using a couple of battle forces, DV, and a Heldrake. Comments and criticism are welcome!
HQ (430pts)
◾Chaos Lord
Bike, Mark of Nurgle, Sigil of corruption
Lightning Claw, Power Fist
◾Daemon Prince
Power Armour, The Black Mace, Daemon of Tzeentch or Nurgle, Wings
Elites (115pts)
◾Helbrute
Missile launcher, Reaper autocannon
Troops (574pts)
◾Chaos Space Marines
4x Chaos Space Marine, Plasma Gun
◾Aspiring Champion
Bolt Pistol, Bolter, Chainaxe
◾Plague Marines
6x Plague Marine+Champion, 2x Plasma Gun
◾Chaos Rhino
Dozer Blade
◾Plague Champion
Bolt Pistol, CCW
◾Plague Marines
6x Plague Marine+Champion, 2x Plasma Gun
◾Chaos Rhino
Dozer Blade
◾Plague Champion
Bolt Pistol, CCW
Fast Attack (381pts)
◾Chaos Bikers
5x Chaos Biker, Mark of Nurgle, 2x Meltagun
◾Chaos Biker Champion
Combi-melta, Power maul
◾Heldrake
Baleflamer
1500 points total
I know the 'brute isn't great, but I really want to fit it in somehow; I like the model too much not to play it. The basic marine squad is for camping on rear objectives. I thought about using Cultists, but they seem so weak.
Thanks for looking!

Take combi-weapons on champs. Drop dozer blades from rhinos. Probably go for a few more bodies for marines or havoc launchers - they're doing fine usually.

Desperately needs more troops. One badly placed AP3 blast and your chances of winning are ruined. Drop either the Helbrute or the DP. Cultists, chaos marines, plague marines, whatever you want.

I agree with everyone saying drop the prince. One Daemon Prince never did anything but die. Unfortunately, you have to take several of these guys to be effective, at least two.
Make sure you get the forgeworld helbrute, so you can match it to your army and give it a reaper AC and ML for WYSIWYG
You should take power axes on your PM champions. They will be attacking last anyway with I3, so make those attacks count.
With your extra points id drop the vanilla CSM squad and add a third PM squad with 2X melta

Lesser Daemon of Chaos

I disagree with the single Daemon Prince assessment. I run a single Tzeentch DP (wings, power armor, burning brand, psyker 3). Yes, he never lives to the end of the game, but what he does do is distracts all of my opponents firepower as they attempt to bring him down. All it takes is creative positioning to make sure if he IS brought down he lands where he cannot be seen by the majority of my opponents shooting. I always get him close enough to use the Brand on his troops, baking them off an Aegis Quad Gun or causing them to flee off the board or killing his Warlord. His presence and distraction keeps my troops safe, and to a certain degree, my Heldrakes as well.
Good luck

I don't think spending 20% of your total points value on a T5 non-Eternal, non-scoring 'distraction' with a 3+ is a great move, to be honest. In a larger game where you have more stuff on the board, sure. But not at 1500 points.

To each their own, I say. I would encourage players to try all options. What works for me might not work for you, and vice versa. All I know is my IG friend pours 3 rounds of shooting into my Prince (3+ re-rolling 1s, and 4++ re-rolling 1's) while my other units can target his command units, Anti-Air, and objectives.

See, what you've a described there? A 350 point Heldrake that can be forced to the ground and ID'd by artillery. They both have 5++ unless you pay 25 points for a Sigil, they both vector strike (though the drake hits harder) and they even both have the same weapon (though the drake hits harder again). If you absolutely must take a distraction at least the Heldrake leaves you with 150 points and a HQ slot. If you're using the DP for some fluffy reason sure, but it's simply not an effective use of one's limited amount of points at 1500 given that it generally won't come close to making its points cost back.

I would suggest taking a group of cultists and adding a dark apostle to them. He gives the cultists fearless (so they won't run away) and also gives them zealot, if you give the cultists the mark of Khorne you can have a scoring unit that is fearless, has rage, counter-attack, and re-rolls to hit in the first round of CC (Hatred). Not to bad considering how dirt cheap they are.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies. |

You're absolutely right: A Heldrake is a much better way to spend the points. I run two Heldrakes in my Meta, which is why I use the DP as opposed to running a 3rd drake (that just wouldn't be considered sportsmanlike in my group). But why would I spend 25 points on a Sigil when I can get a 4++ with MoT AND gain the ability to re-roll 1s on armour and invul saves? And I've never had my Prince Instant Death'd since 6th edition. Not once in over 25 games.

Daemon of Tzeentch gives the re-rolls. The Mark gives +1 to inv. DPs don't get the mark, they get the re-roll.

You learn something new about this game every day! I think a lot of players are playing this incorrectly (just as I was). Thanks for clarifying that.

I'd drop the marines for cultists. you can get a big blob for cheap. They've won me more than a few games by holding onto an objective. They are weaker, but in most backfield situations its better to have 13 squishies than 5 marines in power armour.
