Hi All,

Just wanted to share my first attempt at the Legendary Sons of Sanguinius - The Blood Angels.
As a fairly novice painter (I have about 15 Ultramarines under my belt) I wanted to start a second army.
Here is a simple dry fit SM that I painted over the weekend. I wanted to try out a red paint scheme.
Let me know what you think or if you have any suggestions before I start the rest of the squad.
Thanks and Cheers

and with the Bolter and backpack...

Started working on a Sergeant for the Tactical Squad. Hope the rumors of a new BA models coming this year are true cause the basic Tac Squad is great for Ultramrines and such but lacks any distinctive BA markings. I'm gonna use some which I have in the Death Company kit.

Until then, this is what I have so far...

What do you guys think? Too dark?

Alright, so I went ahead and started the head. I have to admit, this is the second face I'm doing (usually I do the helmeted marines).
Used a lot of different materials, but I really wanted this to turn out just right - or the closest I can get to that

but, in the end I think it came out pretty good

I'm actually pretty happy with the shoulder pad. i used the one from the Death Company box and I think I'm gonna do all my Sergeants with these

and so far, this is what I got done today.
Thanks for stopping by and if you have any comments, as always, feel free

I like the shoulder pad. It looks good, really good. You added the small "glint" to the jewel, it's highlighted, the wings look pretty darn good, really, it's probably your first Death Company shoulderpad because you only painted 15 Ultramarines before but the results are impressive

The face looks good, but you should challenge yourself and attempt to add the iris. Be sure to paint the eyes first next time you paint a face! That way you can mess around all you want until they are perfect.

Besides that, to add that extra "oomph" to your model, I would consider adding some edge highlights to the pistol, chainsword and around some of his armor edges you feel it'd look cool.

Keep up the great work

Thanks for the kind words.

I really like and am very happy with the shoulder pad. Everywhere I look, most people use a dark wash for feathers. I used a Sepia wash from Army painter which went very well with the wash in the recesses of the armor. I know it's all a matter of taste, but I think Sepia is great for feathers.

Regarding the eyes, I was planning on trying to add the Iris but, to be honest, I'm a little afraid of screwing up the model now. Besides, when you look at the lore for BA the genetic curses are kind of "vampiric' which kinda fits to the blank eyes :-)

I did the highlights - or as best as I could...

For a self-described novice this is actually rather good. I know one or two people who haven't reached this sort of standard on the table-top after years of painting!

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

Thanks. I've been painting since July of last year - I think. Work and life kinda got in the way for a while, but I want to keep this up since I've found that this is actually quite relaxing and helps to drown out the voices... LOL

Subtle edge-highlighting but looks mighty good You can try adding a bit of edge highlighting to his hair too if you feel like it, but overall, that's one stylish Blood Angel Sergeant (and is it just me, or his head's left side looks a bit blue? Trick of the light or a very hard to paint spot?).

Keep up the good work !
