Right now I have been playing Ravenwing. I like them somewhat but I am the person that always wants to expand and have choices with armies. Right now I have a lot of disposable income and looking to start two armies that I think look pretty cool: SW and Salamander. In order to stretch my money as far as I can I will be searching on eBay to get the best deals. Problem is I know little about these armies. I have looked at a couple of army list and plan to get the codex this week sometime, but I would really like the opinion of experienced players of these armies. I would really love to know what HQ/troops/elites and so on are must haves and which I should avoid, what would a good army list look like for different point values, and what are some pointers you could throw my way for each army. Also, if you think I should avoid one of these armies please let me know and why. I really appreciate the help.

I don't know about Salamanders but if you're wanting to start Space Wolves, the three units to start with are:

Rune Priests
Grey Hunters
Long Fangs (Personally I'd say missile launchers)

That's a good core for any SW army, after that it's just whatever seems interesting to you. I'd suggest some Wolf Guard termies, maybe turn one or two into a Lone Wolf or something for fun. There are a couple blogs and tons of other posts that can help you out.
