Hi dakka,

so me and a couple of buddies are planning an Apoc game next weekend and we need a fluff to support our game so we can set up missions, objectives, terrain, etc accordingly with a theme. We have about 4 days to play this so time isn't a factor for playing hours (for the most part).

So here are the factors to consider:
1. Necrons, Imperial Guards and Dark Eldar participating
2. Not many Apoc formations and super-heavies going to be present
3. Necrons and Dark Eldar may have to recycle models as the Imperial Guard player has much more points in total.

It would be good if there can be a scenario where all three armies will have their own agendas and will fight the other two enemies equally in order to achieve their goals.
Any ideas thrown out would be appreciated.

Do you want each army to have the same set of objectives or different ones?
That could be worked into the narrative.

Different according to fluff. I think I forgot to mention that but thanks for the reminder. I mean in all honesty, I think it'll be difficult to think of an objective that all three factions want.

U.K

Statue of the Emperor:

It was built during the crusade when the planet was brought into the fold by Lorgar. the inhabitants had worshipped the thunder god during old night and once a week (Terran) they would make a pilgramige out into the desert and would pay fealty to a huge obelisk type creation that was surrounded by a strange ring of black clouds constantly erupting with thunder. once lorgar made the inhabitant see the error of their ways he had a statue of the emperor constructed around the obilisk as no matter how hard they tried they could destroy it or remove it as if it was part of the planet itself.

many moons later, during the Horus Heresy, Erebus returned to the planet to ensure that the inhabitants had stayed loyal to the Word bearers. They had not. Erebus decided to tech them the real truth and used the immense power created by the obelisk to power a warp rift which Spewed out Slanaashi Deamonettes around the Emperor. the subsequent fighting for the world after Horus's death was brutal and bloody.

Fast forward 10,000 years to M41. and necrons have started appearing all around the Emperors statue while the local Imperial citizens were attending the pilgramig. the necrons want their home back and the most important step in doin so is to activate the obelisk. it will link the obelisk to its neighbours and awaken their brethren. The IG are mobalised to deal with the threat and recover the ancient holy statue.

elsewhere in the galaxy a band of DE have picked up strange energy readings from a nearby planet. on approach to the planet they see imperial navy ships blockading the planet and realise that by raiding they would be biting off more than they could chew. they tun to leave when a huge physchic scream is issued from the planet. The elder know what it is straight away. they cloak their ships and sneak through the picket line, edging towards the planet below in search of the scream.

They find it. strangely it is a statue o the False emperor and they do not understand. that is until they see the Mark. the mark left thousands of years ago by erebus when he unleashed the slaaneshi on the people. the DE must satisfy their master and they must feel his/her gratitude on their flesh. the obelisk is the only thing that can open the rift.

Set up & deployment
IG start at the board edge and are to retrieve the statue at all costs. The statue is not allowed to be damaged in any way and no trace of the necrons are to be left.

Necrons are to Deep stike around the Obelisk (always scatter, no mishaps) they must protect the obelisk for the first turn and on the second they may start trying to activate it as long as one necron unit is within 1" of the statue. to do this they must roll D6 and get a 5+. the obelisk has 1 turn to power up and a necron unit must be within 2" to represent powering it up.

Dark elder are last to set up and last to start their turn (representing them arriving late) and they may enter from any side of the board as they are entering from space. They have one objective Re-open the Warp rift. to do this they have to overload the Obelisk which is the same rules as the Necrons except they dont have to wait 1 turn to atempt. they may begin attempts as soon as they come into contact.

i hope that this is of some use as a rough bit of Fluff/guide obviously it is your game and you can do with it what you will.

Kind Regards,

MBL

The darkness between the stars

Only real criticisms are that Necrons are the anathema to the warp and vice versa so I don't quite get how it fuels them. Along with that, Dark Eldar don't like Slaanesh. They hide in the web way to continue their hedonistic acts without being punished. There are possibly some exceptions but I know not of them.

It was just what popped into my head, thats the beauty of 40k none of it needs an explanation if GW and BL dont need to then why do we??

Anyway the obelisk is overloaded and the massive release of energy opened a warp rift, Simple enough? and the DE have been chased around by deamons and so on for so long that they have grown weary of the constant harrasment they have been promised peace and a bunch of pleasury bits and pieces if they help out slaanesh... job done

Also, don't forget that the Dark Eldar and Necrons are each other's most hated enemy.
There could be a large Necron Tomb World awakening somewhere, with the Dark Eldar showing up trying to exterminate the Necrons before they are fully awakened. The local PDF then shows up trying to investigate what the feth is happening on that planet and is subsequently drawn into a huge and horrible 3-way war.
Recycling Necron models can be explained as more Necrons awakening and recycling DE models can be explained as them getting reinforcements through their Webway portals.
The goal of the Necrons would be to defend their tombs from the Eldar and Human invaders.
The goal of the Dark Eldar would be to destroy the Necron tombs before the Necrons are fully awake. (And now that the IG are here, why not capture as many slaves as possible?)
The goal of the Imperial Guard would be to drive both Eldar and Necrons away from Imperial territory.
