Having looked at both your recent lists (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/577678.page), I think I'd still make the same suggestions:

Drop the Vyper (/Shining Spears), whilst not bad units, a lone Vyper or min-squad of Spears will get killed too quickly to do much.
Using these points, add Holofields to the Wave Serpent (and possibly Prism) and add more Cannons to the Jetbike squads.

Whilst Tau can remove cover saves, making the Holo's seem useless, it's better in my opinion to force them to spend the tokens to do that rather than letting them increase a unit's BS, but your mileage may vary. Considering the Jetbikes Jink and Rangers too, Markerlights should be a priority target already.

Well, actually its not. I'd opt for a Serpent spam list. First turn, the Serpents should take out the marker-light toting units. Then the Serpents will rule. I battled Tau twice in RTTs and almost tabled them. I used Warwalkers to whittle down enemy units like Crisis or Broadsides. A Jetseer can bolster their shooting. Fire Dragons are also useful to instantly kill Broadsides and to threaten Riptides.

I have to disagree with Wuestenfux (which is normally a bad idea he knows his Eldar) Serpent Spam gets owned by Tau. The Firebase Support Cadre just ruins Serpents without ML support. I'm doing Battle Brothers at Warhammer world with Tau in April (single army that you both play) and we've got 2 FBSCs in our list. That's 12 tank hunting broadsides in 4 units (plus 2 Ion tides). Each unit puts on average 5 HPs on your Serpents before cover. That should be 3+ dead a turn and you'd probably only have 6 on the field and we don't even have Missile Drones, no way would you have models on the table past turn 3. Plus between Mark'O commanders and Buffmanders killing the Tau sources of ignores cover is easier said than done.

I'd be tempted by Jet bike spam. But whatever you do get as many Wraithknights as possible it is the one thing Tau really struggle with against Eldar. Tau is a bad matchup for Eldar so you need to take advantage of their weakness. Get Wraithknights into combat with them!

So you start with a unit of 3 Jetbikes, then add 3 more to the same unit as an upgrade, for a total of 6. 1 Cannon every 3 means up to 2 cannons in a unit of 6 (or 3 cannons in a unit of 9).

It's a ratio of cannons to Jetbikes instead of a "one model in the unit may upgrade..." type of wording.

So you could indeed take 1 more cannon on each jetbike squad, so you're not sure if you could do that and as Quanar has pointed out you can.

My mind must be full of gas today, what is the range of the Missilesides? Isn't it quite short?(for Tau standards, anyway)?

Oh wait, that's one of the dataslates, isn't it? No idea what that does, tbh. And I think I'm blessed by that.

Yeah Sides only have 36" range. The FBSC is a Riptide and 2 units of 3 Broadsides. They don't take up any FoC so to balance that everything gets Tank Hunters and PE(Marines) and Marines get PE against it. It is flatout dumb, trued the list against 2k of Nids and tabled him in 4 turns with the loss of but 2 Broadsides. We were wiping whole units of gaunts with overwatch.

That's just awful. How much does all that cost? Honestly, I'm glad we don't allow formations in my area.

Well its no extra cost so just the points of the units. Fully tooled its about 760 points but if you don't take the missile drones that saves you 144 points which is what we've done to fit 2 in at 1500.
