I am trying to make a Salamanders list based around Vulkan and want to start small. I have not run a Salamanders list before so feel free to make wholesale changes. I have plenty of Space Marine models already I can use.

This is what I have come up with. Based around the master crafted melta tacticals popping vehicles/transports and the flamer command squad frying stuff.

Vulkan 190
joined by
Command squad of 4 with Apothecary 135
(Replace 4 chainswords with flamers)

4 units of 5 man tacticals with Meltaguns 3 drop pods - 425

2 full pods go in first turn with Vulkan + command squad and 3 tacticals.

3rd pod has a lone tactical squad just to ensure the 2 full pods arrive together.

Obviously this build depends of picking off the enemy bit by bit and making use of terrain/cover. Thoughts?

Call me old fashioned, but I like full 10 man tac squads. You can combat squad out of them if you need to.

If you are looking to boost your pod count, try 5 assault marines with a pair of flamers, swapping out the jump packs. Lots of burning, not a lot of points.

I’m not really feeling the command squad. Sure, 4 flamers are nice, but it seems like you should be able to do better for the points. I might use sternguard instead. They can take heavy flamers, and combis if you want some more burning.

Just some thoughts...

thats a good idea

so can get a squad of 9 assault marines + 2 flamers + free drop pod if I drop the jetpacks so I dont need to pay for a pod on the tacticals. All for the same cost as the command squad - nice

I just thought burning with the salamanders doctrine made sense. rerolling flamer to wound rolls sounds good in theory

No, a 5x Man Assault Squad with two Flamers. Feel free to add a Power Sword or Melta Bombs to the Sgt.

For 750 pts, i would not take Vulkan, too expensive
I would prefer more toys..
