Here's my attempt at a hound list with no MC's. Any feedback/improvements appreciated. I mostly play against Tyranid, DA, Necrons, Grey Knights, Eldar, and IG.

Herald of Khorne - Juggernaut - Greater/Lesser - Locus that gives reroll to hit
Herald of Khorne - Juggernaut - Grimoire - Locus that gives reroll to hit

Herald of Tzeentch - Lvl 3 psy - Greater/Lesser - Locus that gives +1S to spell strength
Herald of Tzeentch - Lvl 3 psy - Greater/Lesser - Locus that gives +1S to spell strength

16 Horrors
16 Horrors

15 Daemonettes
15 Daemonettes

14 Flesh Hounds
14 Flesh Hounds

Soulgrinder - MoN - Phlegm
Soulgrinder - MoN - Phlegm

HoK's go with the flesh hounds and use grimoire to keep them alive.
HoT's go with Horrors.
Dogs run up and get engaged
Daemonettes behind the dogs to take hard targets/MC's/TEQ
Grinders shoot from cover.

Should I try and put icons on the daemonettes to deep strike the horrors?
Maybe take Slaanesh grinders with the template weapon instead?
Any other ideas or advice would help. Thanks.

I like it. I ran just one of those hound units (14 hounds and a Herald) in a 1500 just the other day and it was my MVP. Absorbed unholy amounts of fire, took pressure off the rest of my army while pressuring my opponent and still survived to eat his warlord.

I would tweak a few things though. Move the grimoire to one the Tzeench heralds. Your opponent is already going to want to shoot the dogs, so make them decide whether they want to kill off the force multiplier for your army or the rabid dogs ready to eat their face.

I would also drop all of the greaters on your heralds. other than the greater ether blade, there's not a whole lot there that Heralds will benefit from. The greaters are great for DPs, not so much for Heralds.

Use some of those points to get another lesser for the Khorne Herald without one. That nets you Axe of Khorne, and it's boss. Replace the Locus you have to Locus of Greater Fury on both. That nets you rage, hence 2+ attacks on the charge. You

Consider dropping your horrors down to 11 and reserving them. Also consider dropping a unit of daemonettes. Use these points to get 7 or so screamers and discs for you Tzeench Heralds. Now you have a much more mobile fire base that is resilient and your opponent won't be shooting at your troops. They'll also be able to keep up with the hounds, buffing them if necessary.

I'm not too experienced with souldgrinders but I can say I have run both the flesh hound unit and the mini ScreamerStar to great effect thus far. Hope that helps

Ha I liked your idea so much that I went to the trouble of some tweaks for you. Here ya go, see if you like it:

HQ
Herald of Tzeench: 175
ML3, Disc, Locus of Conjuration (+1S), Exalted (Grimoire)
Herald of Tzeench: 150
ML3, Disc Exalted (Portalglyph)

Herald of Khorne: 130
Lesser, Locus of Fury, Juggernaut
Herald of Khorne: 130
Lesser, Locus of Fury, Juggernaut

11 Horrors
11 Horrors

13 Daemonettes
13 Daemonettes

14 Flesh Hounds
14 Flesh Hounds

7 Screamers

Soulgrinder
MoN, Phlegm
Soulgrinder
MoN, Phlegm

So pretty much the same core except you've lost 10 Horrors and 4 Daemonettes in favor of a mobile base for your grimoire and buff masters that given the right psychic powers, can be nigh unkillable. You've also gained the Portalglyph so with any luck you'll make back the daemons you sacrificed. Seems pretty solid to me.

Thanks for the feedback, and the list!

I used the lesser on the herald last time to give him the axe of khorne and it was great, luckily the HoK with the grimoire (who I was using as warlord) rolled to get the instant death as his warlord trait so it worked out.

I really like the idea of putting the grimoire elsewhere and getting the axe of khorne for sure on both heralds.

Also really digging the mini screamerstar idea, I haven't played one before and I think this smaller version is just the ticket to give it a shot without hampering the rest of my army.

Thanks for the input!

Glad to be of assistance.

As far as the Screamers go, not only are they not hampering the rest of your force, they should actually be buffing it by holding the grimoire, and passing out all the goodies they get from divination. For their psychic powers, always roll twice on Divination first, trade out useless stuff for prescience, then just take flickering fire from change.

I definitely like that you have strayed away from the Flying Circus. Don't hate on all FMC's though, Fatey is still a boss and if there's only one, its not spam

Looks like a pretty nasty list to me. In your experience, what kind of DA units give you trouble?

6000 pts
2000 pts
2500 pts
3000 pts

The DA I played had a really nasty HQ biker squad that wiped a unit of dogs and daemonettes with some help from his dread.

That's pretty much it, everything else he fielded died the turn I got into base contact.

I don't hate all FMC's - it's just that I only have 2 MC models so it makes it hard to do a proper flying circus list, and if I field just the 2 in a 2k points game they never seem to do anything before they die, could just be the group I play with but they always get focused down fast

DA black knights are great units, however they are truly lethal vs your hounds when it comes to shooting.

The reason is that they can drop you to T3 with the grenade launcher, and then ID your dogs with TL plasma guns.

When they fight in cc they can also be a threat, either by making you fight at WS4 and I3, or by making you T3 and wounding you on 2's.

Your best bet is to grimoire your dogs when you are trying to get near them and attempt to get the charge, because they are still only as tough as normal bikers and will go down to charging dogs.
Alternatively you could just try and shot them, as tey are worth a lot of points.
