Alright, so I realise that most people think Terminators are a waste of points, since twice as many marines can usually do the job better, whatever it is, but I'm thinking of building a heavy terminator army for aesthetic reasons, with some scout elements backing it up mostly. If you were to make say a 1750 point army (just as an example, consider the size a loose indicator) how would you build it?

I'm asking because I've never played vanilla marines, but that would be what I would look at in this case. Might be ill advised, but like I said, I'm looking at this from an aesthetic standpoint primarily. That said I would still like to try and not buy twice as many models as I need, and I think if you Vanilla veterans help me out here, I could make an army that is somewhat enjoyable to play.

couple ways you could go with this, especially when you consider the different chapter tactics available.

Infiltrating Scouts, or Scout Bikers with Teleport Homers and then Deep Striking in all that Termi goodness on turn 2.

Id say run them with Imperial Fist Chapter Tactics. That way Scouts and Tactical Termies both benefit from Bolter Drill.

For one, vanilla Marines can field just terminators. There are no vanilla marines terminator troop choices. Only elites. I think grey knights and Dark Angles can field Terminators as troop choices

Vanilla marines don’t do terminator armies as well as other codexes, but here are my semi-random thoughts.

Chapter tactics: Imperial Fists. You are going to have a lot of stormbolters, might as well get some use out of them. I’d go Crimson, rather then Imperial, but that’s just the aesthetics of all the red powerfists calling out to me.

Your centerpiece is going to be a squad of assault terminators in a land raider. Probably a crusader so you can stick your HQ in there as well. Alternatively, run with the classic LR for the much needed long range support provided by the Godhammer TLLCs. If you do, your HQ is going to have to hang with one of the tactical terminator squads. This isn’t a bad thing.

Once you have your box of pain and death loaded up, you are probably going to want 2x 5 man tactical terminator squads. I’d run an assault cannon and a chainfist in each. Some people like the CML, I’m not a fan.

Depending on your HQ and how you decide to load things up, you probably have around 1,250 points and a stupidly low model count. Time for the rest of the list.

You want scouts? No problem! Take a small sniper squad to camp the backfield. Maybe behind an ADL w/quadgun. The fill some LSS with 5 man squads. Teleport homers might be fun to bring in the big boys.

FA is going to be some scout bikes for flavor, or stormtalons to keep the skies clear.

HS I’d get some tanks to roll with the LR. Probably preds; you need the long range firepower. Alternately, just take more LRs. This is the all-in approach and will make for a very rock/paper/scissors matchup.

I run ultras

1st don't use a normal squad of terminators they just don't work for the points (& usually get shredded)

but I always use assault terminators thunder hammers & storm shields in a normal land raider as a dedicated transport. with terminator Capt in terminator armour with thunder hammers & storm shield as my HQ

a little bit venerable to pysic screech

If you run Mordaci Blaylock (FW special character), you can run your army as the Novamarines 1st Company, he makes terminators (both regular and assault) scoring. You can then take some scouts (I like them in LSS) for a couple of cheap troop choices.
Aesthetically speaking I actually really like their checkered blue and white scheme.

Cheers.

Since you're going for the aesthetic, I would safe go with Dark Angels. Squads are so much more customizable. Unfortunately, we lost teleport homers with the new dex. I used to love my scouts and terminators, but there's ways around it in this codex (hint: every bike has a homer).

Any reason why you want to run vanillas over DA, GK, or SW who all can have terminators as troops?

Was thinking exactly that. Terminators are very cool loking models, but having to go around the "not scoring" part is a bit tricky.

Go Dark Angels, run Deathwing. You get several important factors: Deathwing as Troops, both assault and regular, if you field Belial; Deathwing Assault, which gives you guaranteed turn 1 or turn 2 deep strike; splitfire on heavy weapons; no scatter with Belial; rerolls to hit when you deepstrike. You can also run Deathwing Knights, who are awesome, get great Librarians with Divination in Termy armor, and improved transports (DW Land Raiders) if you don't DS.

Plus the minis look great, and with Dark Vengeance out, you can get some great deals on them.

I can't comment on tactics, but I think having a bunch of space marine scouts calling in a bunch of terminators by deepstrike is conceptually way more interesting than just spamming core terminators .

If I were to do termi/scouts I'd be tempted to do it with Blood Angels so I can even drop a Land Raider in from orbit (filled with a bunch of assault terminators) for the grand finale.
