My scheme is going to be Vect's Kabal of the black heart. It just seems with how small everything is, they're a nightmare to paint... If anyone could add some tips or tricks that'd be amazing.

Having painted marines and orcs, and then Guard, I found them to be very very small and wondered about the same thing. I only had two squads and sold them off before I even assembled them because of this. The small size and number of spiky bits that could break off if dropped sort of turned be off from them.

They do look good when painted well and if I should go in that direction again, I would try painting in a light colored primer and using just washes to add color. When applied correctly, a wash tends to stay off the sharp edges allowing for some nice gradiants and mimics edge highlighting.

That's a good idea, but seeing as I'm doing them Vect's Kabal (the way they are on the box) It makes the most sense for me to prime black, then do edge work.

They aren't harder, but they are more time consuming. They have so many components that it takes more time than to paint shoulder pads. There are also models with a lot of skin, which means washing is less effective.

However, if you spend the time....

The models turn out phenomenal. Of all the models produced by GW, these models have the most potential.

That's so gorgeous... That's definitely beyond my skill level. I wanna do black heart kabal, and honestly I'd be happy if they came out remotely resembling how they are on the front of the box... lol

With DE, base lighter than the color you want (never start black, always a dark grey), paint your desired base colors, then darken with wash. Finally, go back and highlight the edges with a dry brush. As you can see from the picture, the highlights at the end do everything. Therefore, dont spend a lot of time with the actual painting.
