Stronghold Assault allows for fortifications to take a Searchlight upgrade. The rules for such state that it follows the same rules as vehicle searchlights as per the BRB (page 87 for reference).

I have 2 Questions concerning this since I cannot locate the answer in the BRB or relevant FAQ.

1. Would a unit embarked into the fortification that is firing out of the fire points be able to trigger the Searchlight's illumination ability?


2. Would a unit embarked into the fortification firing an emplaced weapon trigger the Searchlight's illumination ability?

Just like vehicles, the unit and building are seperate. They are never considered the same unit.

So in this case the building must do the shooting.
A unit firing Emplaced weapons count as shooting them themselves, so again it isn't the building shooting.

There is a reason I keep stating that the SearchLight really drew the short stick when it comes to 'ignoring night fighting' abilities.

Wow. That makes the Searchlight upgrade pretty much worthless unless you have multiple auto-firing fortifications all firings at the same target. Short of the Firestorm Redoubt, I don't see much use.
