Source FEBRUARY 07, 2014 (Hillside, NJ) – Adding to the excitement of the recently announced Tyranny of Dragons from Wizards of the Coast, WizKids Games, a division of National Entertainment Collectibles Association, Inc., is excited to announce an all-new line of pre-painted miniatures for Dungeons & Dragons. The first set of miniatures will coincide with the launch of the highly-anticipated next edition of Dungeons & Dragons tabletop roleplaying game, set to release in summer 2014. “We are very excited at the opportunity to join the party and work with our friends at Wizards of the Coast to enrich the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop experience for adventurers worldwide,” said Justin Ziran, President of WizKids. “With all the tools WizKids brings to the table, we figure this partnership will be a critical hit,” said WizKids Director of Business and Legal Affairs Alexis Mueller. The new line of Dungeons & Dragons miniatures will feature creatures and characters that players have come to know and love, allowing them to wage their battles and experience their adventures with a greater level of immersion and tactical interplay. “This year is going to be the biggest in Dungeons & Dragons’ history,” said Nathan Stewart, Brand Director for Dungeons & Dragons. “It’s important for us to work with strong partners such as WizKids to ensure fantastic Tyranny of Dragons experiences for all D&D fans.” WizKids will develop figures that support official Dungeons & Dragons key products this summer. For more information, please visit WizKids Games at New York Toy Fair (16-19 February 2014) at Booth 4802, or online at www.wizkidsgames.com/dnd

Our Attack Wing D&D game will be configured very much like our Star Trek: Attack Wing game, with a box set and stand alone visible figures.
Unfortunately, we can't tell you what kind of dragons will be in the release or how massive they will be. At least not yet. We're also doing a dragon-based dogfighting game using the same engine as our Star Trek: Attack Wing game. So yes, dragons of all shapes and sizes.
Unfortunately, we can't give more detail than to say that it will have a similar product configuration to our Star Trek: Attack Wing game. We'll be revealing a bunch of information about our D&D Attack Wing game at the GAMA trade show in Las Vegas this March. Following news of the Tyranny of Dragons storyline, we are thrilled to announce our partnership with WizKids Games to produce an all-new line of pre-painted miniatures for Dungeons & Dragons. Look for the first set of minis to coincide with the launch of the highly-anticipated next edition of the D&D TRPG, set to release in summer 2014.
"We are very excited at the opportunity to join the party and work with our friends at Wizards of the Coast to enrich the Dungeons & Dragons tabletop experience for adventurers worldwide," said Justin Ziran, President of WizKids. Are they still going to be random? Because that's why I hardly ever bought the old D&D minis.

Even if they aren't random, they will probably be pretty gakky quality. That said, I can't imagine them not being random (aside from a starter blister).

I don't mind gakky quality if I can get a booster of 20 orks for $10 or whatever. I'm not going to be using them for my 'good' minis but for cannon fodder in D&D games.
If they are still random though, the gakky quality just makes it even less likely that I will buy them. I have plenty of random stuff already.

Boosters are up for pre-order at $11/4 minis on Miniature Market.

I just threw out a number, obviously 20 for 10 was me being silly. Still, 4 random minis for $11 isn't happening.

I agree, that was an obviously silly thing to post. Here's what you do. Scale down to 15mm. You multiclassed in miniature wargaming, you can handle painting stuff from Khurasan. Of course, this won't work if you must have the D&D 3.5 and after super hero look for your minis.

Is this English? edit: I think I parsed it. Why would I scale down if I already have hundreds of minis in a different scale?

Is it English? Er, okay.
I don't know why you would scale down if you had hundreds of miniatures in other scales. I thought we were talking about getting tons of fodder orcs for obviously silly prices.

Wizkids (and others in general) can't function without everything being random. It's how they drive sales.

This. WizKids makes/made pathfinder minis for a hot second and the only thing that wasn't random was the large skeletal dragon from Skull and Shackles, and I believe the "We be Goblins" set which featured the same sculpts as the reaper goblins (which came out in Bones for less cash). Other than that and a "starter set" it most likely will be randomized. Though since they are designing an Attack Wing style game with dragons, those will probably be nonrandom. But them again, they make HeroClix which is 100% random save for starter sets. But there is a collectible aspect to that game...
It's totally up in the air -.-

I want to know if the D&D guys are going to have a skirmish game again. I liked that!
Probably not.
Interesting that WizKids is involved, considering they're in cahoots with Paizo with the Pathfinder figures.
If this attack wing has nice looking figures, I'm sure my kids will want in. They have no interest in X-Wing despite my best efforts in trying to talk them into it.

Yeah, a starter set of the dragons might be a fun pick-up if I see it somewhere, albeit not a priority.

Using the Flightpath system for dragons seems like a wasted opportunity when they could be using it for Spelljammer.

Crap. SpellJammer?
My 12 year old self just gave you an internet high five. I read the CRAP out of the books. I used to pour over those ship diagram charts.
And yet nobody ever wanted to play it with me.
If they brought that back I would totally buy it. My dream of seeing those inanimate golem asteroid fields would finally become reality.
And yet my family still wouldn't want to play it probably.

Me too. And, it is an easy enough system to teach that it could be used for the ship to ship rules in any game of D&D I'm playing.

Good heavens!
Miniature Market lists EIGHT wave one expansion packs for D&D Attack Wing and three further expansions for wave two.
That would easily cover all ten chromatic and metallic dragons with a slot to spare.
Now, I would hope they don't only do dragon riders. But I am most excited about dragon riders.

From: http://www.phdgames.com/dd-miniatures-skirmish-game/
“It will follow the formats that we’ve defined with Star Trek Attack Wing, except this will be dogfighting dragons!” Ziran said. “Ok, so you have dogfighting dragons, but what about ground troops? You’re going to have those too! Giants, ballistas, magic users all fighting the dragons up above and the dragons raining fire down on them. It’s a very interesting take on this category.”
The game sounds very interesting!

This interests me less, really, as I think there's enough 'design space' to make Dragons themselves fun and interesting. Adding in a skirmish game seems unnecessary.
